Cutting a boom with a chop saw?

A hacksaw is the perfect tool. Use a fine blade, 24 tpi perhaps. Mark the cutting line all around the extrusion, then cut along it. Do not try to cut right through with a single cut. Keep rotating the boom, cut following the marked line.
Us old fashioned maintenance guys always agree a hacksaw is the way to go, carefull mark out and slowly cutting its easy. The obsession with power tools? Hmm!

When mine broke I cut it into pieces so I could bring it back to the UK to sell the fittings on eBay.*

It took hardly any time with a hacksaw. Although I wouldn't vouch for the cut being at right angles to the boom! ;)

* A waste of time. Nobody wanted them.

I used a hacksaw blade in a 10.8v recip saw to cut the stainless steel handrail for our balcony at home. It was quite hard to control, but I filled in the irregularity when I welded it up. I wouldn’t dream of trying that on something visible.

I had a crack on my boom at the goose neck end so i removed the end fitting and cut a couple of inches off with my hacksaw - it took about 10 minutes. I didnt even consider any other option, it was easy and quick to do.

When I installed my Aquadrive I needed to shorten the 1 inch diameter drive shaft. Very aware that shortening it too much would be disastrous I cut it several times progressively before arriving at the ideal length. All with a hacksaw. Each cut only took a few minutes.
