Current leakage - radius affected?

Thanks for taking the time to comment.

All bonding is independant of wiring that carries current (although of course there is continuity via the blocks and the main starter earth leads and others). I.e. I could remove all bonding wiring and all other systems on the boat would remain complete and working.

I'm fairly sure there id no way the bonding can be carrying current.

Having fixed the engine bonding, she's going back in with shaft anodes too.

I'll go for a weekly swim under to visually check on things, if problems persist I'll invest in a silver chloride reference cell (albeit I'll have to work out how to use it and interpret the results).

If you go swimming where there's a leakage, you may become a statistic. I believe leakage can paralyse muscles. Not very helpful when trying to swim or stay afloat for that matter....Others jumping to help will be also affected.

I see numerous posts wishing this Ole Will bloke good luck
Who is he???

It's William Hines from Western Australia.

He always signs off like that. Perhaps he should put a comma in there so that it reads, "Good luck, oleWill"

Feel free to put the pic on your website if you wish.

Thanks, I just read that page, I am absolutely certain that there is no connection of live to the bonding in the boat. I will double check that again tomorrow before we launch.

I hope that I have fixed it with the bonding.

What did you repower with?
The reason I ask is that at least two of the newest gearboxes out in the wild have insulation issues!
Try checking the resistance between your shaft and an earth point, then putting the engine in gear. My money is on the difference being quite noticeable. As the gears engage and disengage, the nett amount of protection changes markedly. One of my customers' powerboats had exactly the same problem and a pair of shaft-brushes saved him from buying a second pair of 24" props from me!

A pair of Sabre M265Ti's.

I kept the same gearboxes.

Thanks, I will download it. Would be nice to know the cause though.

Any difference in the electrical isolation/ insulation between them and the originals? Did the originals have an isolated negative while the replacements have a negative return via the engine block for example.
