Cupboard latches

My son has been fettling several of these latches. After removing paint with dishwasher tablets, this is how they look. It looks like there steel with some kind of copper plating judging by the colour.
He wants to repaint them, what materials to use?

I would give them a spray over with (Lidl) Silver metal spray paint.

For use on board, give the innards a good dose of ACF50.
