Cummins wet manifolds from China, anyone?

I’m marinising a couple of Cummins 6BTs, and, having found a cheap source of Cummins-pattern wet manifolds from a reputable Chinese supplier, I’m going to go ahead and order a couple.

I’m wondering about a larger order to save on shipping costs.

Anyone interested?

I'd pm latestarter1 off this forum before you do that as he is our cummins guru on this forum, he may even know who the manufacturer is, I'd also say he might be able to help you get genuine parts from the u s at a knock down price instead, I'm not a real fan of pattern parts as they often don't fit right , more the point it could damage your engine as something like an exhaust manifold would have been designed and tested beyond it's true intended capabilities before being signed off fit for purpose, Chinese copies..... Well up to you.

Likely to be made by Dongfeng. These manufacture bits for the 6BT and others under licence from Cummins.

EDIT: best run a file around the machined edges of any castings before seriously handling them as Dongfeng stuff tends to be left as is and are razor sharp.

Thanks for your thoughts, guys.

Getting to the manufacturer and past the endless dealers is the hard part.

I don't have any doubts as their quality - I find it hard to believe that, given that Cummins has it's own production facilities in China, lumps like wet manifolds are made anywhere else other than China - no matter where in the world they're sold...

Don't go that route I will PM you.

Hi Ben,

No secrecy, just the China sourced manifold thing is a complete minefield, Dong Feng are perfectly good, others less so, pal in the U.S has stopped selling the ones he was importing as there is no easy way of telling the difference between a genuine Dong Feng and a copycat. I have been plagued with people buying first and then sending me pictures asking if this or that is correct.

In addition you will require a header tank and most importantly water cooled turbine housing which used to be available as a separate component about £300 making it simple to convert a dry Holset H1C to wet H1CW, leading to complaints from Holset dealers, housing is now only available through Holset dealers and simply converting a turbo is no longer cost effective.

Perkins and many Ford marinisations used a dry turbo with a decent blanket, therefore far more cost effective to go that route.

The Bowman route is POTENTIALLY better, however there are some issues on which I will give you the heads up.

Good luck
