As this engine is new to me I was systematically working my way around identifying all the main components, pipes etc to get to know the engine.

I found the lift pump nicely hidden behind a cooling plate but couldn't find any way of manually using it.

Looked at the documents for the engine on line and it seems the marine version is electric only and can only be operated by turning the key on at the ignition (but not starting the engine!) OR using a command from the engineers laptop when it is plugged in to the engine management system. In which case bleeding the engine at sea if you are by your self must be very difficult.

If anyone has experience of these engines have I got that right or am I missing something blindingly obvious (which is probably the case) ?

Many thanks

Harpsden,

Not quite sure what problem is? System works simply and effectively. You MUST always fit fuel filters 'dry' then simply key on, pump buzzes away until sytem completely primed and pump shuts down. Engine ECM constantly senses fuel inlet pressue delta 'P' and under normal operation pump simply marks time as Bosch CP3 pump is pulling fuel through.

I would hope vessel has decent primary fuel filteration system if you start blocking your 'last chance' on engine filter then fuel system is simply not fit for purpose.

In practice a real easy system to work with if you are singe handed.

Hi Latestarter1

Thanks for the reply.

There's no problem, just used to the idea from previous volvo of using the lift pump manually to prime/bleed the system.

Turning the key and leaving the engine to it sounds much easier.

Thanks
