Cruising tips for croatia

Dubrovnik is well worth a visit but is a long way down the coast & a bit of a tourist trap.

Look out for island of Ston (about 20-30 miles N of Dub) - excellent oyster farms there plus a restaurant that serves them with good local wines. I was there about 10 years ago & prices were very cheap. Lots of tavernas on nudist beaches as you go further north again. Good food, limited shelter. winds can blow up quickly & produce short steep seas.

By the way, I was working in Mostar & spent weekends on the coast courtesy of a company Beamer. The coast road is a superb drive but the local drivers are sometimes suicidal.

we were in murter 2 years ago and,its lovely round there down from murter ,you will see on your chart sibenic. you come to a large entrance with an old fort on the mainland ,this is the canal, river that leads to sibenic
a lovely old town, carry on along the river past sibenic ,(buy some mussels from the farms on the way down) you go into a lake then into skradin a nice marina and town.from there you can get a ferry upriver to skradin ,waterfalls/national park.its well worth a visit,we did see a couple of yachts anchored off the marina so they may still allow that, .other places near zlarin small fishing village ,moor up to town quay, vodice, big marina, town ok,and primosten ,hope this is of help,i must sa i have never seen such well marked entrances headlands etc as around croatia

I have chartered in Croatia for several years, its hard to find a not nice place.Went from Kremik this year, in May, very good. (remember meeting you BVIs return flight this Feb?)

Hi
That was me ,mainly I was wondering which direction to head for the prettiest area, based in Zadar, what the anchorages are like shelter etc a earlier post said shelter wasnt to good,i was hoping to spend a fair amount of time on the hook.
We charted in the ionian after the bvis and found the ports/anchorages with line ashore pretty good is it similar in croatia.
I can give you a bell for a quick brief if youve got 5 mins
Regards
Mark

I wrote my perso "best of" for a couple of cybermates. On yotblog ( see my profile). Swagman + Savarna are out there now, and adding their favourites

Our last time there, score was as follows:
Anchorage 7 nights
Town quays 2 nights
Marinas 2 nights
Restaurant mooring buoy 1 night

Less marina costs - more to spend on food and drink!
Pit stops dictated by needing to fill water tanks

Kornati will be very busy all August - further north will be quieter: Losinj, Cres, Olib sort of area. Ilovik is a nice overnighter with two or three average restaurants on the waterfront. Vis well worth a visit, and since you're around for six weeks, why not go to Vieste or Trani in Italy? Great food and warm welcome.
