I was wondering if anyone had sailed to Tangier recently and could give details of marina and facilities I'm not asking about any other places in Morocco ....... just yet.

Many thanks,

Bjl

Hi

we are in Rabat just now. Forget TANGIER for a yacht. everyone here that has been to Tangier in the last few weeks that we have met regrets it - No facilities for yachts at all!

Tangier Port is currently undergoing a major rebuild and is not a good stop off just now.

A large new container port (Tangier Med) has been built further east towards the big mountain, Jebel Musa.

The old ferry port is being rebuilt as a fishing harbour and work is reported to be well started on the new large yacht marina.

Local rumour suggests that it will open in 2 years.

I have given the place a miss this year.

If you are looking for a marina and facilities for yachts, there are none.

But, just to give a different point of view, try and read (or read again) Paul Bowles "The sheltering sky", or look at the movie itself (with Malcovitch), or have a look again at Ingrid Bergman and Bogart in "Casablanca" (which in fact was Tangiers)... then having a coffee at Hotel Continental terrace above the port, going for a stroll down the "Socco" (sic) with 40's and 50's writings on the walls in English, French, German, Arabic are still there, taking a coffee/tea at Café Hafa just outside the town with the Strait at your feet, the house of Matisse, the house where Burroughs wrote The naked lunch...
I guess it's each to his own :) Give me a stop in Tangiers any time rather than Rabat or Agadir which are IMHO anonymous places like one could find anywhere say in Costa del Sol.

Different things one is looking for, etc etc. :)

Many thanks for the replies. I knew that the Forumites would have differing and different views. Thanks particularly to capnsensible for your objective contribution and to Roberto for your suggestions.
