I'm considering getting a cruising chute but if anyone can tell me what other tackle/bits n pieces I need and where to fix it, it would be really useful
You'll need a block at the top of the mast. It should be in front of the forestay ideally with a swivel. At the foot of the mast you'll need a spare cleat to tie it off. At the stem you'll need something to attach the clew. If I remember correctly from my last boat (on this one I have a spinnaker [which I prefer]), the chute had a metre and a half of line so I could have had a block at the stem and the line could be tied off inboard. Then you'll need a sheet (two if you can so it's easier to gybe) and a turning block at each quarter on the stern - the sheet coming back from the turning block to your main winches. Safer I guess than a spinnaker but I suppose the only bit of gear you save on is the pole. I think one of the magazines recently did a how to article on the cruising chute. I'll see if I can find it if noone else reports it first.
