A few years ago Bob and Christine Harper set off from Carrickfergus in their Tradewind to sail around the world. Their budget wasn't big but the preparations were thorough. They were away for several years but kept those of us left behind up to date by managing to get the log of their adventures published in the Farming Supplement of the Belfast Newsletter so we all bought that paper each Saturday until they returned. They have been back now for some time and appropriately Bob is now Cruising Secretary of the Club.
The Log has now been published under the title 'Letters to the Boatyard' by Dolman Scott at £25 ISBN:9781905553402 www.dolmanscott.com
I would recommend it to anyone dreaming of a similar adventure, at this is the time of year in a dreary Uk it must be worth thinking about.

Annie Hill's 'Voyaging on a small income' is one of the best 'drop it and go' handbooks. But I fear that the world has moved on a bit in it's treatment of low cost travelers.

It gets a very good review in the current (January, for crying out loud) Sailing Today.
