Yes Medway have sent me a demand (after 6 months on a buoy),I am curious as to where they got my home address,Queenie HM perhaps? Surely not my transom MMSI. £1 per week is ok,for their nice uniforms, sorry!... essential conservation work.
 
Hmmm, I think that any moorings or operator who passes on your address without your knowledge or permission is probably contravening Data Protection laws.
 
WD 40 or cooking oil work wonders. Put it on and leave for a few minutes and in general wipe it off, sometimes you might need an edge to scrap it - fingernails etc.

Nail varnish remover - I've not yet damaged anything plastic with it but it never fails to remove the sticky residue from stuff like this!

Dear Mark

We attended our boat to find a parking type sticky envelope stuck to the inside of our canopy plastic window.
We have subsequently applied for a river licence as informed but are perplexed as to why we was not given an invoice, payment advise, slip or request for payment prior, these could have been sent to our address or held with the YH... and or forwarded by them.
Please note that the marina have all our contact detail and text us and other berth holders on a regular occasion to inform us of activities, a phone call would have been so easy.

Our boat is a pearl motor boat named Mystique. Berth 08 at Fambridge YH

The envelope has left a glue residue on the window and could not be removed with soap and water, we have since contacted the canopy manufacturers and they suggested trying vinegar and warm water,
This we tried yesterday Sunday 7th without any luck. The manufacturers have told us that under no circumstances must we use solvents, alcohols or abrasive methods to clean the windows.

It baffles us why when your agent has entered our boat they did not put the sicker on the glass patio door or stuck the information to the fibreglass or stainless steel or even better left it on the coffee table.....
It could even have been adhered to the external of the boat as it is a waterproof envelope.
The only reason we can think any of the above was not done is to cause vandalism to the most vulnerable surface on the boat.

We request that you please attend our boat to remove the residue without damaging the plastic window.

Sounds perfectly reasonable to me Steve. I would be very angry that someone entered my boat without permission, as i'm sure you are. Any costs involved in removing this would be passed on the them and pursued through the small claims courts if need be. Can't be lawful for people to do this sort of thing, surely ?
 
I am wondering how long you have been on the River Crouch and why you haven't paid harbour dues before now. We're you not aware. Had you not seen the harbour dues plaques on other boats? They are fairly conspicuous.

Although I do not think it right to have stuck the notice to your plastic windows I am glad they are chasing those that fail to pay their dues. Perhaps if all the boats I see at our marina pay what's owed it the Harbour Authority may not put the charge up next year.
 
i had not noticed the plaques and still have not seen one...
but to be honest i did have an idea that there was a kind tax to pay but thought it was taken with the moring frees
now they have my information it wont be a problem as they can tell me when and what to pay next time.
as for fees not going up next year i have since done some research into the CHA and there accounts alone with huge profits makes interesting reading.

crossrail have boosted there accounts by many hundreds of thousands and even pay for bouyage and craft etc for cha.

lets see if this gives the local boat owners a discount next year!!!!
after all it is a not for profit trust

be careful, cos I don't think they do tell you. I think the onus is on you to find out and pay it. I may well be wrong, but noone asked me. however, I did just know about it because of experience in the Medway so I just pay up at the beginning of the year and get it out of the way.

Nope, I didn't receive a bill or a reminder this year either. I knew about the need to pay the harbour dues from the start but only, IIRC, because it came up in conversation with Toby at Fambridge Yacht Station when we visited to see if we wanted to moor there

Must confess, the sticker hasn't actually made it on to the boat this year :eek: but she is duly dued up and no notices have been affixed to any part of the boat so maybe they either haven't checked out the swinging moorings or maybe they're using modern technology to check vessels off agains tthe database
