went to the boat this weekend to find a sticky envolope with application form ( simular to a car clap or parking ticket wallet ) stuck to the inside right in the middle of our new canopy window......

it beggers believe why did they not stick it to the fibre glass, stainless steel, glass window, patio door or leave it on the bloody table.

to make it worse its not on a removable part of the canopy, the whole lot has to be removed roof and all, taken away, have a new window installed then refitted, probobly best part of 3 days for someone to do.

question is how do you get the sticky residue off the plastic window.
had all the windows replaced this year and was told never use anthing more than a sponge and soapy water, this will not remove glue.

sorry for the rant but numpty or vandal springs to mind.

HWMO used lighter fuel on everything to remove sticky things. Not seen it damage anything yet as I think it evaporates before it does any harm. Note: I haven't tried it on plastic windows, so it's just a suggestion!

Also suggest :p that next year you just send them the cheque at the beginning of the year so they don't sticker you again! They send the permit back in the post along with a jolly little timetable and other useful gumf.

I sent 'em a cheque but forgot to stick the sticker on the boat

Mind you, if they can get their envelopy to stick to Brigantia I'll be asking what glue they used 'cos I can't get anything to stick to anything on the boat :D

thanks for the advise, i will try a bit of white spirit in one corner.

i dont have a problem with the dues just the method in letting me know what i have to pay and when.

what ever happened to invoicing or request for payment, the marina have all the contact details so a letter would have been nice with some advise.

now i have the details maybe they will send me an invoice when the next one is due, its such a small amount, why cant it be added to the berthing fees.

just think my self lucky they didnt have a stapler or hammer and nails....lol

white spirit will not damage the window ;)

I guess it depends on where you berth. When I was at Gillingham on the Medway, they included it in the berthing fees and listed it seperately on the invoice.

Not so at Bridgemarsh, nothing to do with them, pay direct. The first year I called them and asked them to send me a demand or such like, but they told me that it's my responsibility to get the permit for the area that I wish to use. Without colluding with the marinas, they will have no idea who is who on the river.

To be honest, although I have no problem with the fee, or paying it by any method, I don't really understand how they determine who should and who shouldn't have to pay the fee. Is it that everyone pays whatever is appropriate depending on where their 'home' berth is? what if you don't have a home berth? How long do you have to be on the river for the authority to expect you to pay? And what if you move halfway through the season? Do you pay again on the next river?

yes i have now got the information as well now.....lol stuck on my window...lol

never had to pay on any other rivers only the lock going up the thames, and they told us what we had to pay and didnt sick it to our plastic windows.

maybe this is the new method and i should stick my check on there window.

still be nice to have an invoice or payment advise slip.
i bet they invoice cross rail....

will i need to check all east coast rivers before entering ???

just checked with the canopy company and must not use solvent they said try viniger ???? if that doesnt work it will be about £ 250.00 to remove canopy and install a new window then refit.

You don't need to pay on the Crouch if you enter "on your own bottom" (their weird expression not mine) and stay for less than 28 days.

I can't think of anywhere else (tidal) on the East coast that has harbour dues - and certainly not for short term visitors.

Wisbech yacht harbour does, for annual berths at least.

Wells does, but again i think only annually.

The moorings on The Orwell are also subject to an annual license fee, payable to Associated British Ports.

Southwold?

The wording below seems, to me at least, a little unclear.

Visiting Vessels

Vessels entering the harbour from seaward on their own bottoms and remaining within the harbour for not more than 28 days in total in any one period of 12 months will not be charged Harbour Dues.

Does this mean not more than a total of 28 days in 12 months, or not more than one period of up to 28 days in 12 months? Punctuation might have made it clearer but there is more than one possible interpretation.

However, how on earth do they know how long any visitor has been there during the year? Who is counting?

At least it is not like Salcombe, where on arrival the HM launch will be alongside pretty soon with a demand for immediate payment of Harbour Dues, it may have changed since I was last there.

"not more than 28 days in total in any one period of 12 months", that's how it reads to me.

What's cheap though ? :o

Southwold

'Specially when the very nice Harbour Master decides your boat is shorter than it actually is 'cos otherwise it'd have to be a LOT longer :D

(Makes a change for being charged for an 8m boat. I'm thinking of adding a bowsprit just to get my freakin' moneys worth :()

Medway does (I think - well at least I rememember paying it and it's more than the Crouch).
Correct, tidal Medway has a 'conservation licence' fee for boats based in the Port authority area, which includes the Swale. About £52 in 2013 as I recall.
Some marinas might charge you the fee and forward it on, others do not and leave it up to the individual boat-owner to do it direct with Medway Ports.

Can't find any indication of mooring prices on the website which always worries me :o
