Crossing the Med from Gandia to Palma - any hints, tips or crew offers!

Well I made it to Cala D'Or in one go. Offloaded at 07:30 but had to wait until the customs office opened to have permission to leave port. Got going at 10:20.

The seas were pretty calm on the first part of the passage and I headed south of Ibiza. Looking out I could see the horizon clearly all around but not dead ahead. What's going on here then? Then on the radar came the yellow blobs of thunder storms. Drove between two but then they closed in on me. Got wet before going to the downstairs helm for a few miles. Calm water though.

Stopped for fuel at St Eulalia and set off for Mallorca at 14:30. The next part of the journey was great. Flat calm, dolphins jumping right out of the water in our wake, truly wonderful. Then the horizon disappeared again. Drove around another thunderstorm. F4 the other side but soon went flat again. The on the last few miles up the coast to CD it was quite nasty, F4/5 wind and swell. Made it to CD by 18.00.

Picked the only day that the all the staff were not at work. I am not sure if our permanent berth is empty. They have stuck us on the visitors pontoon (third from the end) next to a load of noisy Germans.

Anyway got here in one piece and avoided the bad weather. It had better be bad tomorrow or I'll be cross because after a 6.00am start I an bloody knackered now!

Well done

We made a really flat crossing back to Sant Carles - there seems to be a relentless forecast of swell for the foreseeable future.
We guessed that it would have been ok for you as long as the ship didn't let you down again.

Strange - we didn't see any Dolphins - we usually do in those conditions.

Half of our passage was so flat that I even managed to get the drone up - and land it again!!!

Anyway, I bet you are really chuffed.
Well done - it is now time to settle down and enjoy the Med.
You have a great base for those idyllic Mallorca anchorages.
Do you have any winter plans to get out to the boat?

Thanks for all the messages.

I have now moved to my permanent berth N43, so if anyone is here now do come and say hello. That has not gone entirely smoothly because the lazy line for our front rope is caught in the props of the neighbouring boat. So I have had to raft on to it. At least he can't go out and leave us stranded. They tell me that they will fix it tomorrow.

Got the Bimini up, cover on the tender, given her a good clean. Working in this heat is a lot more tiring than working in Solent conditions, had to keep stopping for a swig of beer!

Now sitting in the shade on the flybridge and starting to think this might have been a good idea after all! I'll post some photos if I can work out how.

Congratulations PEJ!
You'll love it.
Post pics if you can. I know CDO well but don't know the berth numbers so I have no idea where n43 is, but its all good. (Hope you can cope with the street water :disgust:)

well done and yes it is a good idea to be in the Med with all the sun and heat!

however you have to get used to the heat otherwise you stand no chance doing any work whatsoever on the boat from July to Sept... Remember it's cool now. Ppl down here are putting boats to bed for the winter, raggies remove sails, these massive wheels, lines and seal everything, moboers pull them out on the hard, ppl stopped going to the beach (mainly because they're bored of swimming 4months in a row) etc...
Water temp is still a reasonable 27C (from 29.5C in August..)

enjoy!

V.

I am on N47 and fly in Thursday so we will pop over and say hello. Is the weather still hot I do hope so .

Great to hear it was a success.
Any your boat was originally spec'd for the Med.
Yep - washing a boat down in the Med is a totally different experience.
You almost want to get yourself wet as well!!

Good luck in your new marina.
I'm sure our paths will cross sometime.
Hope to see you around.

BTW - I have had a report of huge swell around today so your plan came together.

or you pay somebody else to clean your boat whilst you retreat to the shade of the nearest bar;)

Hi P,
Delighted to hear you got to your destination safely. Would have loved to have been there... maybe another time.

Well done PEJ , a great sense of relief having prepared the boat in the UK, arranged shipping, and finally a quick dash across the water to your new home.
A lot of talk on the forum recently about med berthing has got me thinking so have organised next week to be in Cala D'or for a look round. Watch this space !!
cheers
Tetleys

What a Saga PEJ but you have safely landed and deserve your beer, I hope the cover fitted after all that.
Yes it did. Can't quite work out how the back end ropes tie up, the guy did not have time to fit it in the uk so I am guessing at how to fit it!

Same for me, I ended up clipping the ends together and looping around the prop hub. Tilting the OB and turning slightly gives you more canvas to play with as you lose a bit of the OB's height.
