Crossing england in a punt BBC4 9PM tonight

although I do sometimes wish that they would do the journey for real rather than doing most of it with the boat on a trailer

Yes. Although despite attending Eton and Balliol Collge, Oxford, Tom Fort doesn't seem the type who'd park his punt in a disabled bay or try to shortchange the railway companies.

It was passably OK and I liked the fact that they used a punt rather than a GRP canoe but it could have been much better written, I found the presenters constant pausing for breath halfway through every sentence (despite the clear lack of exertion in the pretence of propelling the punt) irritating. It would, I feel, have been a lot better with Mr. Heiney of this parish or Mr. Rhys Jones on the water and somebody with a better understanding of the meaning of the word "fact" typing up the script

I agree

To be fair to Tom Fort the tv show was a reenactment of his 'real' voyage which first appeared in his book "Downstream: Across England in a Punt" way back in 2009! There's a thought Dylan, you could do a speedy version of KTL and just drop Katie L in at various places and finish your trip in no time at all! Only joking of course, for me the longer the better, you (Jill) may have other thoughts?
