Crocs

OK, I confess. I have, on occasion, been quite rude about Crocs and was very derogatory towards Mrs jhr and our gifted offspring when they bought several pairs on holiday in Oz at the beginning of last year. Then we went sailing in Greece last summer and, erm, how can I put this - I found myself looking wistfully at a pair in a shop window and ended up buying them /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif. They are great for clambering around the boat, have a ferocious grip and are very comfortable in hot weather. They also have the added advantage that you can wear them when swimming (they are very light, and float if they come off) and thus avoid impaling yourself on sea urchins and such.

Not wearing any at the moment because they don't really go with a pinstripe /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif.

Absolute genius.

Look at a huge market and think "what's the cheapest material I can make this out of, while being practical".

Cost of materials (EVA is extremely cheap) for an adult pair is no more than GBP2. I'm being conservative, it's probably closer to half that.

I know the 'croc' question has been raised before, but some people seem to be coming out of the closet now so as I forked out for deckies last year, and wife is thinking about croc's instead, which are the better ones for grip ?
Anyone have any opinions on the practicality of these things as serious 'deck' wear ?

Crocs are definitely shirtlifter shoes. A mate of mine turned up on my boat last year sporting a pair crocs. I was horrified and chucked them overboard

Perhaps these hairy-arsed shoes would suit you more

K, you can find some glorious stuff in TK maxx, take a trip over to the nearest one, head to your size and they'll probably have something as ridiculous as my new sneakers - if they dont, shout at them /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

yes you'll pull plenty of birds, but you'll get kicked out of the house of commons and welcomed into the houses of commoners /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Having lived in deckies for years, I am a Croc convert - I have a brand new pair of deckies bought last June that are unworn. Crocs grip better, don't smell and dry quicker. The dye doesn't come out of them and stain your feet either. However, like deckies they should NEVER be worn with socks.

They also look less stupid than Dubarry boots when worn with shorts - now that is the "shirtlifter" look if ever there was one. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Well at least someone read my question /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Have been instructed by Louise that my habit of wearing socks when wearing deckies just doesn't look right /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif so I somehow think she may be making moves towards amending my kit when I pack, and removing them from my selection. Ah well, never thought I would pick up fashion tips from here /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

I dont like the look of them, I'm sure they are wonderful, but Yuck! Anyway if that tw@t GWB wears them, thats it for this boy!

I use em on the boat (and also around the house as slippers) they are the comfiest thing you'll ever put on your feet for sure.
SWMBO has a pair, and so do both my kids.

I think they are superb. That said, there is no getting away from the fact you look like a tit when wearing em. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

But comfort and suitability to the job wins the day for me.
