Went to the boat last week (Thurs), with a view to staying on board for 5 weeks. Had family "do" Sunday, then plan was to leave on Monday for a few days in Yarmouth before setting off for West Country. I hasn't worked out that way.......

Having seen the forecast for Tues/Weds (F7/8) decided to stay in the marina until Friday, then a delayed departure for Yarmouth to watch the RTI pass - 1600 boats, would have been good to see. But, where, you might ask, am I now.......back home, that's where, totally "crocked" with recurrance of back trouble!! Went to Chiropractor on way home, who as usual has made it worse before it (hopefully) gets better. Can't stand, lie or indeed sleep 'cos of the pain. I'm tired, irritable and fed up, nay, SERIOUSLY pissed off......!

Hope to have another go early next week - sadly, being indisposed, I can't do all the jobs on SHMBO's domestic list - at least I've got the forum.....!!

Has my "jinx" returned - can it be exhorcised, and if so who's the best person to do it??

Feel for you .. Im just about to leave for the boat as have been given 10 days off by SWMBO...I've got the opposite medical condition...

Having been to the 'Mole doctor' last evening to have some sun damage removed from my face.. I look so frightening the only place to be where children won't scream is out at sea!

Good luck with the back.Nick

Probably rubbish advice but when I have back problems the usual advice was "rest". However I was always impatient so as soon as possible I go to the gym for light exercise, swimming is usually safe. Normally works for me.

Re: Ouch!

You have my sympathy. February I could hardly walk with a left knee problem, after loads of anti-inflammatories and rest it was just about comfortable for Easter. Just in time for me to upset something in my lower back recovering the wash boards from cockpit locker. Middle age, dontcha just luv it!

Re: jinx is back

Well at least that means the weather for the weekend should be OK! Hope you're feeling better soon but let me know when you're next going sailing so I can stay on the pontoon!

When that happens and it does completely incapacitate me, I use double strength Ibuprofen as an anti-inlammatory; "Cuprofen" or something similar. Not normally into pills or potions but it works like magic! Good luck.

Re: Ouch!

Stuge, Nicho would probably be happy if he was still sufferining from middle age!!

Apparently some of his family now call him 'Victor', but he won't BELIEVE IT.

I shouldn't knock him really, he attended to our unfurling genoa in the midst of yesterday's gales.

<hr width=100% size=1>It's frustrating when you know all the answers,
but nobody bothers to ask you the questions.

Re: Ouch!

As I might have expected from this forum, some sympathy, some advice, some sarchasm, some rudeness! The usual mixed bag - I just DON'T believe it.......

DOH, there I go again.......!

(But I know your thoughts are with me at this time of misery, really I do!)

Re: jinx is back

Only marginally better today - another appt with the "bonecrusher" tomorrow (hopefully the last). If I were you, I'd aim to be safely tucked up in Puerto Solente by about 16.00 on Sunday - hopefully, I'll be sailing down Southampton Water by then (must remember to warn S'ton VTS).

Make sure you buy a furling one next time.

That's not how he put his back out is it? I should go easy on the insults if I were you, or it might be a job for Claims Direct.

Re: jinx is back

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the heads up, I'll keep my VHF switched on Sunday so I don't get caught out by your wash again as you make your way to the lock. It will save me using the loudhailer.

I did not know the Bav has wardrobes you can jump off, I thought they were built in, floor to ceiling like other boats. I have a word with your SWMBO to make sure she is more gentle in future.

Jokes apart, (what did you expect) take it easy.

Re: Ouch!

Hey, Claims Direct? Never thought of that, could be lucrative - I've been told young Nick is worth a bob or two.....Come to think of it, I DID put it out as I was pulling on his furling line.

Must contact my lawyer (Jimi? - he knows legal matters these days)

Victor indeed - perhaps he'll settle out of court.

Re: jinx is back

I'll try to sneak past you this time! On our boat, Mrs Nicho does the jumping off things - evidently, I'm "too old and decrepid" for such activities (and anyway I'm normally asleep at the time)........Oh! and by the way, Mrs Nicho, and 'gentle', do not go together, which is why I spend all my time keeping on the right side of her. (What's the difference between Mrs Nicho, and an Al Quaeda terrorist? Well, you can actually REASON with an Al Quaeda terrorist!!)

I periodically suffer from this. I originally went to a chiropractor who twisted me all ways and like you I was just as bad afterwards. Then I went to a rhumatologist ( I explained I was due to go skiing in 3 days time: "no problem" he replied) He also twisted me but differently - with almost immediate effects. He explained that there was one type of movement I absolutely had to avoid. Needless to say the chiropractor had twisted me that way.

Make sure you are with somebody who really knows what he is doing.

John

Thanks John - I must confess I've never been to a rhumatologist, but in fairness my chiropractor is one of the originals, and one of the best. Sadly. 31 years of bouncing and crashing around the world in rally cars has wrecked my spine. This has been happening to me for some 25 years, and sadly it seems, it will stay with me forever, though regular preventative visits to my "bonecrusher" has generally kept it at bay. I'm pretty fed up with it right now though!!
