Hello,

Just back from a fantastic week in croation on a Bav 36.

We had a funny noise from the boat when in harbour that sounded like a crackling noise...i thought it was bad shore power and that it might have been anodes fizzing but plugging out shore power didn't make any difference....neither did turning out everything DC on the boat. At one stage we were anchored in a remote cove and were swimming and when underwater over 20m from the boat we could hear this crackling noise...like a fire from a distance or someone frying a breakfast.....

We mentioned it to the cruiser base when returning the boat and they said it was only foam bubbles and that its a regular question they are asked....

Anyone else ever experience this & what the feck was it???

Silly question i know...almost too embarrassed to ask...

Regards,

I went searching for an answer the first time it came up, so not difficult to answer now. The snap crackle pop is how most people describe it. You'd be amazed how often the question comes up on the forums!

Snapping shrimp very active gulf of Mexico. I shoot seismic surveys, underwater recording of manmade soundwaves generated from multi-unit large volume (4000cuin total) high pressure airguns(2000psi). In the evening when these bu&&ers get chatty they can completely drown out our airguns. Power of numbers I guess.

Thanks for the replies folks (& the especially fast reply from BrendanS)

That sounds like the noise OK....never would have guessed it in a million years. I was full sure there was something wrong with the electrics of the boat....
