Crinan Canal 2025

That is good news about the Cairnbaan Hotel. It is also good news that Scottish Canals have been renovating locks and performing other remedial works. A few years ago it did look like the canal was being run down and could be closed.

New owners sounded like they had positive plans for the place. Do you think they will manage to get it open this season?
They seem to be making good progress with the building work but then there are all the various hoops they need to jump through to open for business. If I hear anything concrete I'll post it here.

I also heard that the previously named "Yacht Spot" cafe in Pier Square in Ardrishaig, just along from the sea lock, is going to open soon....no idea what it will be called.

Is it open for through traffic?
It is open during the week this month, but you have to arrange with the canal office...... expected to be open 7 days a week for the "season" from the first week in April. No official date has been confirmed to my knowledge, but the booking system on the website might reveal that information.

They have cleared a lot of the banks down at the Ardrishaig end that were pretty well overgrown. The permanent staff look pretty active at the moment.

That's good. Last year was very late opening.

Is it open for through traffic? from SC.
Email to users on Wed:

Scottish Canals engineers are replacing an actuator on the Cairnbaan bridge during which time the bridge will be closed to boat traffic. This is effective from 12 March 2025 until further notice.

I have been given the following information from the canal management:

It is anticipated that the Cairnbaan bridge will be "fixed by next week."

During the spring tide, (which is as low as 0.4m at Ardrishaig) the sea lock may not operate until 11am.

No entry into the zones around Crinan Sea Lock

The tides should allow canal entry at Ardrishaig sea lock from 8.30am from the 21st to 25th April making a single day transit possible. The entry times will get later for the next 8 or 9 days as high tide times get later.

Had another great run through yesterday from Crinan to Ardrishaig. It was like a well oiled clock with the staff spot on. Arrived at the sea lock at high tide so straight out. And the sun was shining.
