Hi Adrian, yes I was forwarded that one last week, what a mess I wonder how it happened, will speak the Ian at Pearl and see if he knows anything about it.
It needs a bit more than a tub of filler to sort that one out.
A word of warning to anyone that might buy.
Remember the squadron that sank off Weymouth a few years back, the present owner had to have the tanks renenwed and the engines fully stripped down and rebuilt last year, the company that did the engines quoted that sea water was still inside the engine and that must have been 10 years on.
I was working in the yard local to me when the boat was bought as salvage and took note of all the grp work etc.
I also took note of how little time and effort was put into the re commisioning of the engines by the midlands dealer, they basically removed the injectors and turned the engines over with a shot of oil and wd40 in the bores, then filled the engines up with new oil to the top of the rockers, to displace the water, forgetting that oil floates on water hence sea water still in the sump.
After the boat was repaired itw as used for a short time and sold.
No doubt the pearl has nice pair of d12s or something like that, which will be worth about where the bids are now.
Ow! Looks like an episode of 'when charters go bad....'
Thats not just a grounding, but looks like its been run on to rocks, pounded by the sea and then punded some more just to make sure the job was done properly the first time round.
I guess its take the engines off, systems off then get the chain saw out?
Saw this boat to today from a distance as I was driving East bound down the M55,it is kept at a car and HGV salvage yard near Mythop,on the out skirts of Blackpool, used to be known as CI Motors but not sure if it has been renamed. I could also see another flybridge cruiser of similar size in the yard but could not make out what it was,so there maybe another one coming up for sale.
The seller does say (either in that advert or maybe it was their previous Ebay classifieds listing (was up for 70k), that they have another Pearl for sale but that it is to be scrapped and for parts only, which implies they are offering this one for potential repair.
I was looking thru the pics wondering just what it would take to fix this one, that must be sime really severe structural damage. If the interior was built in blocks then lowered in before the deck went on then it would be a nightmare to even get to it from the inside. I imagine you would have to patch it quite a distance along to get strength into it. Also wonder what condition the engines are in, and how much water damage they suffered. Clearly they think this one is salvagable, but its one hell of a project, and I imagine it could get very expensive very quickly (but for <70k its oh so tempting for a moment or two!).
Anyone been involved with this level of repair before and can shed some light?
