Hey guys, Im looking for the chance to join a racing crew in the future, somewhere in the northwest.

Its a slightly complicated situation but ill explain.

Ive been sailing for fifteen years or so now... not bad for a 19 year old eh?... almost entirely cruising with my parents, around North wales, mainly from Conwy. However, being a 19 year old, I love the thrill of racing, whereas it scares the life out of me mum, so we rarely race. Maybe once a year, if that. Therefore I want to find a boat to crew on. A second problem is that I live in the midlands, as far from sea as possible, however I am now at university in Preston, so the Northwest is the best place for me to go. I don't have a car so I can take the train and be picked up at a local station if needed.

I have little racing experience, however I'm experienced at cruising, young, full of energy, ambition, all those things a teenage boy has. Oh, and i can make a good cup of tea in almost any condition /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Please PM me if your interested!

Thanks, Stuey

I could tell you were from the midlands when you put 'me mum' /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I know nothing actually goes on at university apart from a few hours of lectures a week /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif , so get posting a bit on the main forums and you'll become more noticeable, there are a lot of forumites here who don't check the crewing opportunities forum who may be able to help you out.

Great ad for yourself, by the way - Does Preston uni not have a sailing society of some sort?

haha Thanks for the advice /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nah it doesnt. I was actually really dissapointed. I was supposed to go to bournemouth, sailing availability being one of the main factors. However my course got cancelled 2 days before i was supposed to go, really screwed me over, so I had to just get in wherever I could, and ended up at Preston. Theres a marina, access to the sea and everything, but no sailing at all there. Quite strange really.

Hi there, am in the North West, well Manchester, so not too near the sea. Used to have a boat at Preston, but there is a lot of sailing further up, near Lytham. Pretty sure they do racing too. Afraid I am not the racy type myself, more of a cruiser. wish you luck, but get in touch if I can help any further.

Can I ask what course you're doing? You can PM it if you want to keep it a secret /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif No real reason, just being nosey, unless you're doing a business course, in which case you could do a feasibility study on the potential success of starting a sailing club/school - some unis offer funding for ideas that would work well in the area, and if you put together a good enough argument for it, they would probably have some good resources for it - you could get the engineering department to knock up a couple of dinghies cheap, then get the business marketing students to put together a quick ad strategy /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have looked at Lytham, thats just about in cycle distance which would be ideal. All be it a fairly long ride!

Im doing product design, which doesnt open that many opportunities to do that sort of thing. Although two guys on my course are well into their sailing as well. I might have to see what they think.
