Crew

As a sailor who regularly seeks crew opportunities, it never fails to amaze me how Skippers forget to sell the attraction of their offer when made at such short notice.

Would you go on a last minute 2 week holiday at a super discount rate without knowing where you were going, the departure point, or airline being used ?

When I was a kid, coach companies used to sell mystery tours which were just that.
You turned up, paid your money and they took you somewhere you probably didn't want to go

May that's whats on offer with Sticky?

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth! Obviously if some one were free and up for a cruise then they would contact the poster and find out what the plans were and what was on offer.

Re: Crew - is this a freebie offer then?

Sticky's is a well known business venture!
He also offers sailing tips on the free sailing mag. you get at Marinas.

Thought there was a rule about not using these forums for commercial stuff. Unless of course 'crew' will be going for free! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I hope I have made my point. Not everything is always as it appears when offered a crew opportunity. Many a story to be told here.

I can put up with most new Skippers for a weekend, even the Captain Blythe variety. But two weeks is a long time for a "mystery tour". The differences in psychology can too easily set in, leading to a "I must of been mad" conclusion.

It is the Skipper who takes time to introduce themsleves, explain their intended passage plan, describe the yacht they have and indicate the level of sailing expeince they are seeking in their crew, that tend to be a safer bet.

Call me cautious if you like, but I speak from having crewed for over 20 Skippers in the last 5 years.
