Hi all my name is sally
I'm really hoping some of you good people can help me.
I'm looking for anyone needing crew around the Chatham area.
I'm new to sailing but I've such a hunger to learn
I'm super skint n carnt afford lessons but am a quick lerner.
Anyone with any bright ideas most welcome.
I'm available most weekend's and am a very happy to muck in doing anything.
Thanks for reading. Sally pirate.

I can teach you how to sail, but.....

Hi,
You don't say how old you are, so you may not find my entry on a dating web site that I've copied and pasted below of any interest. I'm 68 years old with no desire to be a 'sugar daddy', so this is not any form of un-civil contact. If you are near my age, please read on. If not, then I'll wish you good luck.
Colin.

I am seeking an intelligent, well informed congenial sailing companion to enjoy summer cruising in the Baltic, exploring new places, sharing laughter and costs. If you aren’t already into sailing, I’m a very patient teacher with an ability to explain things simply, and can teach you the basics of sea sailing in the UK. The only ‘qualification’ is to be reasonably agile to be comfortable moving around a small boat and about 5ft 6” or taller to be able to get on and off the boat easily.

Sailing daily from one interesting place to another in the four months of high summer leaves the rest of the year free to go for countryside walks or do any other activity that you find interesting. Apart from bungee jumping, I have enough curiosity to try almost anything!

I live on my own after my wife died of cancer in the spring last year. I have a happy, optimistic disposition - I like to debate and discuss but I do not like arguments. I am not a ‘snappy dresser’ or into dancing, but do like walking in the countryside and exploring new places.

My music tastes include pop music of the 1960’s and 70’s plus classical music, whilst my TV watching, such as it is, is mainly news and documentaries ‘Technology’ in all its forms is seldom a problem to me, as I designed industrial robots and other technology based machines.

I do set high values on honesty, honour, trust and courtesy. I drink in moderation and smoke about 8 cigarettes a day, always taking care to do so where it won’t make my house or anywhere else stink

If you would like to find out more, do get in touch - I’d be delighted to share my enthusiasms with you and learn about yours.

PM me when your divorced and the kids have grown up;) Just joking....
Good luck in the mean time.Try helping out at a club and you will soon find a nice bunch willing to take you sailing.I know a few girlies who did just that and one has her own little yacht now. They are all about my age (38)
Most clubs will have a crew available web page or a noticeboard. Also make it clear if you want to do racing or cruising. You might be better/more comfortable joining a race boat where there are normally a team of several people.
If you were round here i would happily teach you (S.Wales)

I have a medium sized cruising yacht based in chatham. I am quite willing to take crew wishing to learn and more than happy for you to come along if your interested. If you get back to me I will give you a little more info.

Sally, I just posted a postcard ad to a few local yacht clubs (a few years ago I admit) but got some good sailing. I personally am out of your area being in mid-Suffolk. But would recommend trying this. Had a few trips to Holland with a great guy, Westerly Fulmar, London with a nerd, new somethingorother.
Set the arrangements from the start and there are people who would take you on. Crewing is a great way to learn and many people need crew. Grab the helm at all opportunities, the skipper should tell you where to steer and do the navigation, and poss buy you a drink in the bar?
Surely Chatham Harbour, where I have sailed into, must have a noticeboard? Chance to skip about with mooring ropes/fenders, etc. Costwise? Take your favourite tea-bags and booze, do abit of cooking and cleaning.
So my suggestion is: Sailing/Yacht club notice boards. Gives people time to think and perhaps have a chat beforehand.
Keep a logbook, get it signed off. One or two night sailings will increase self-confidence.
There are many genuine sailors in need of crew. Enjoy.

Sally, hi pirates always welcome. We sail out of Hoo Ness YC and do a lot better with crew than without! Not much going on right now but season will soon arrive. Happy to teach crew and Aurai is out most weekends, with plenty going on. Cheers

Hi Sally, I sail from Chatham and also a member of Hoo Ness YC, although I usually have crew (wifey) I can recommend Aurai, Chas is extremely patient and is used to different crew with all levels of experience, he usually has several crew on the boat so don't worry about having to sail off with a guy your not sure About, although his conduct is beyond reproach :-)
