Crew wanted

I need crew to help me sail my newly acquired boat down the West and South coasts during May and June (from the Island of Bute to East Anglia). Each leg will be 9 days i.e. from early Saturday through to late Sunday. The boat is a 26’ long keeled yawl built of wood in 1971.

I have more theoretical sailing experience than practical, so it is essential the crew is experienced in UK coastal sailing. I have completed the RYA Coastal Skipper course and have some practical experience in sailing boats, but not much.

I am not in a position to pay for crew so you need to want to sail for the fun of it, not for profit. I will provision the boat so at least you won’t be out of pocket.

My plan (subject to weather conditions) is to complete the first 2 legs around the time of the 2 Bank Holidays in May. If you would be interested please contact me on crew@conselo.co.uk

Forgive my impertinence, but IMHO you are really looking for a delivery skipper. Anyone who would be of real value to you in these circumstances would want to be the skipper. I would suggest that if they don’t, then you don’t want them.

Of course a good skipper would be happy to stand-back and let you learn as much as possible and make as many decisions as possible, but ultimately they would be in charge.

Also, of course you may well find someone who would do it for fun rather than money. (That's why there is no money in sailing /forums/images/icons/frown.gif )

OK I take the piont about delivery skippers but most of us do this as a hobby not a profession and I remember being in the same position when I bought my first boat - I could only just afford her and 'delivery' was quoted as 1/3 of the price I had paid for the boat! My solution when the scratch crew of co-opted freinds let me down at the last min was to do the trip solo, best thing I ever did but only for me. So yes Ill give you a hand with my bit if the dates work out (Hollyhead to Lands end - I'm based at Milford haven) contact me by private mail with details if you are interesed.
