Hi all,

I'm stuck with super plans for a cruise (either to Holland and back or from the Thames to the Solent, and local pottering, dates being August 13th to 1st September or so) but I have no crew!!! Chums who'd like to come can't get the leave...

So, I'd love to hear from anyone who is free and fancies some days afloat. If you know someone who might be available, let them know. Ideal candidates might be Uni students or those searching for jobs post-UKSA courses etc.

A bit about me... 36 years old, aviation professional, had the boat for two-and-a-half years, cruise with the emphasis on fun and relaxation but a keen eye to safety.

Now the down-side... Mine is, I am ashamed to say (in such revered company on this forum), a motor boat. Albeit a 'modern classic', but nonetheless devoid of sails, masts, etc...

I do know that some 'proper' yotties have an occasional yen for the 'dark side', and so if this is you, there's a berth available! I promise not to tell anyone and not to post any names on this forum!!!

Boys and girls both welcome, no age restrictions.

Hi Niners,

I've sent you a PM.

I'm booked onto the MBM cruise, so it's Ramsgate Ijmuiden to start, and I can't remember where after that!!!

I do sail, a bit, but got started motor-boating, and now really enjoy owning a beautiful cruiser (not a jelly-mould)... I do often think of switching to sail, but have spent a lot of time (and money) on the old girl, which I wouldn't get back. Once I'm settled in the Solent I'll be hoping to crew on other peoples yachts from time to time (if they'll have me!).

Well, I haven't heard from niners, so...

Here goes with one final try to find a willing individual...

If you can help, or you know someone who can, please do! Otherwise, I shall have to cancel the Dutch cruise for definite and tackle taking the boat from the Thames to the Solent single-handed...

Someone must know a student-type, or retired person, or someone who can take some leave at short notice...?

Please PM or post.

Many thanks.

I've got a phone number of a retired chap who is looking for crewing oppertunities. I copied the number from a notice board at a Medway marina and rang him as I was interested in how many (if any) calls he got as I am interested in trying yachting and getting a few rides as crew seems a good start before commiting 'big bucks'.
He is a widower and has recently taken a competent crew course. I realise you've got a power boat but he may be worth a call. Word of caution though, I rang him expecting a quick 5 min chat and pretty well had to put the phone down (after a polite excuse) some 45 mins later.
PM me if you want his number.
Out of interest, where on the Thames are you setting out from?
