A regular group of us at IYC including yours truly Mr Nick Ardley, have been chatting about creek crawling for 2010, fed up with marina's we want to use our east coats boats for what they were originally designed for!

There's much being discussed on the local beer shops, where to light a barby and so on!

Anyone else here interested in joining up with us for some creek crawling please post here or pm me.

Let me offer you Bridgemarsh, which has the benefit of both being a marina, and offers 1st class creek crawling. Indeed the majority of the pontoon gets less wet at LWS.

ooh, I think we'll be up for that. Hoping to be fully fledged East Coasters by Christmas....

So far there's about five boat owners involved if your interested, I can also arrange free berths for visitors at IYC should you want to stop over, but we do ask that visitors donate to RNLI though!

Just been speaking to Dave about this & yes I'm very much interested. Various Roach creeks look very inviting, plus all those of the Swale & the Medway creeks.

Hi Jim, Bridgemarsh has been mentioned. whats their visitor accommodation facilities like?

Well... it depends when you come. Phone Biff in advance (number in Reeds), and he'll try to fit you into a berth alongside one of the pontoons. Some are very shallow indeed, some reasonably deep, but expect to dry out on firmish mud. Loos, showers - not very plush but acceptable, water and electricity (if Biff can connect you) on the pontoons. No diesel or washing machines or posh restaurants etc, but a friendly and very quiet place. The station is 10 mins walk up the lane. The pub is about 30 mins walk, though, and there's not much in the village.

As Dave mentioned Nick Ardley in his original post, anybody read "The May Flower: A Barging Childhood (Paperback)"
http://www.amazon.co.uk/May-Flower-Barging-Childhood/dp/0752442252
or "Salt Marsh & Mud a Year's Sailing in the Thames Estuary (Paperback)"
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Marsh-Years...=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1258406872&sr=8-1
both by Nick Ardley, who moors a couple of berths away from Dave at The Island Yacht Club in Canvey. I haven't, but intend getting the second book as it looks as though it could be the inspiration of some creek crawling next year.

Hi Folks, Me and my 'snappy' could be very interested. It should be like home for my boat. :)
Yes another boat built for essex creeks and estuaries, ideal for the type of cruising we have in mind.

I think the boat with the deepest draft in our fleet so far is a Centaur, so we will be planning our cruising itinerary around boats with upto 3' draft, so you should be happy with your snappy! ;)

we're a touch over that! = 3'6"

3'6" ?? ChattingLil and FullCircle clearly have ocean going liners. :D

Well the 'snappy' is allegedly 2'11" or 2'6" depending if you follow official blub or not. However once i've loaded up the bare basic utensils (2 cows, 3 sheep, Jet Pack just incase I get left behind. :) ) I'll probably be drawing half way up the mast. :D

ummm ... just heard a Sabre owner was lifted out weighing 4.1 tones on the crane - the official weight is 3.05 tonnes displacement - I wonder what that translates to in inches extra draft
