In Terry Pratchet and Neil Gayman's novel "Good Omens" Crawly - the devil's representative is congratulating himself for a job well done in tying up all Londons's portable phones for 45 mins. over the lunch hour thus increasing blood pressure, making thousands of people angry and frustrated who will then upset other people and spread misery everywhere. Crawly also claims part of the credit for the M25
Now consider motor boats as Crawly's work. Whenever they go somewhere they cause anger and distress with those atrocious wakes and horrible noises. They even worry their own kind. I've seen motorboats turning very suddenly into the wake of one of their fellows. They are appallingly expensive, dreadfully wasteful of energy and as un-green as crawly could hope. They are incredibly male chauvinist too. I've never seen awomen driving one -- cant be all bad then!

Never read the books, or just cannot spell?

If you actually like that sort of book, try Robert Rankin, The Brentford Trilogy

Well, sticking with the opus of Pterry, might the saily types be somewhat like Corporal de Nobbes? Doesn't do much but rich and powerful people tell him he's important until he believes them.

Motorboats may be the work of Leonard of Quirm, despite Lord Ventinari's efforts.

:-)

we could have a lot of fun (and lose virtual friends) by suggesting which one of TP's characters fitted which S'butter...

Only time the missus lets me drive is when she wants to sunbathe.

The great advantage of a flybridge boat, IMHO, is that it allows one to properly look down on the raggies.

And as for environmentally unfriendly, well, I ask you, what else are you going to do with all that fossil fuel apart from burn it? You can't exactly drink it, now can you?
