Looks like my Easter plans have already been scuppered. The boat's on the hard and we were hoping to get her in and sailed off to Ramsgate so I rang the marina and they're quoting April 13th as the earliest available craneage slot. Grrr. It's not like I can get her lorried to Kent either as the crane's needed to get it on the lorry.

How big's the boat? There are some monster HIABs around these days, you might be able to self-load if you hire the appropriate wagon and driver.

Thanks for your interest guys. She's 38' (11.6m) and is not blocked in by other vessels. After speaking with the marina folk I rang the broker whom I bought her through and he said the marina had been quoting them after Easter as well.

Trouble is, I was trying to keep her down sarf on the cheap, ie on the hard, not in the drink. They quoted me three mortgages a week for temp mooring until I had the time and a weather window to sail her home. Who'd buy a boat eh

Even if you could sort another means of lifting the boat, it's highly unlikely the marina would let them do it for insurance and H&S reasons. I think your only way is the one JTB suggested, eye contact and a well thought through sob story.

Blimey .... I didn't appreciate how busy the UK is.

Say 20 minutes a lift/drop.... say 20-a-day ... must be 400 boats in the queue before you.

I must be missing something. Time to get SWMBO to chat someone up ..

Yep, it's quite surprising - by contrast I have been advised that to get a launch from transport at what is undoubtedly the very best marina on the French riveria only requires about a week's notice... :D

I hope I've got this story right ... but if I remember correctly, when TCM turned up with his first boat, at the same marina with a brand new T48, he was somewhat surprised that his arrival was unheralded nay even unexpected and why shouldn't his boat be dropped immediately ? ... as I recall he says he didnt have a berth arranged either.

T'hat story has undoubtedly been embellished by me due to rosay consumption ... but I'll keep telling it until he stops me :D
