There's a video on Youtube, showing an internal corridor of a large containership in an Atlantic storm. The boat is twisting like a cobra - horrifying, but apparantly quite normal!!!
Try getting into Padstow over Doom Bar in a N F8....That really was scary.12 ton boat and we slammed off the surf and broke all the solder connectiond on switch panel.
Photos were taken aboard the Selkirk Settler, in 1987. (I was nowhere near her at the time!) Owners were Scott Misener Transportation, a rather good Canadian outfit.
I would not call her a "giant bulk carrier"; she was a "Laker", i.e. about 27,000 tons and narrow beam so she could get through the locks on the St Lawrence Seaway. In fact you can see that she is quite narrow. IIRC she had no damage, which is amazing considering she was built at Govan (yes, my prejudices, borne of bitter experience with British shipbuilding, are showing.
She's still in business, still Lakes trading. This web page will tell you more than enough about her.
