Cracked rudder stock

I was examining what I thought was too much play in the tiller this afternoon when I noticed a crack in the 'ruddr stock'. I don't know if it is the right name, but it's the bit that sits on the square top of the rudder shaft that the tiller bolts on to. Looks like it is made of bronze.

Is this the 'rudder stock' and if so, where can I get one?

Boat is a Cobra 850, fin keel, if that is needed. Thanks in advance.

It's not the stock - that is the vertical bar that goes down through the boat into the rudder. I believe it is called a rudder head fitting but I am happy to be corrected by those more knowledgeable than I am.

I will be interested to hear where you can get one because I have searched the internet in the past and failed to find one with the square hole in it. My boat is by the same designer as yours and the rudder head fitting may well be identical. The best match I could find is the Plastimo fitting which you can get from Reliance Marine here http://www.reliancemarine.com/Product/3596/Stainless-Steel-Rudder-Head-Fitting-50x225mm-To-Fit-25mm/View.aspx Looking at the picture it seems to have a round hole but it may be square further down.

They were often custom made although Southwest Marine Factors sold a standard fitting at one time. Doubt anybody makes them now as there is no demand. Choices are have the existing one repaired or have a new one machined from solid. They are usually split with clamp bolts to tighten them onto the square stock. For obvious reasons it is necessary for the square to be accurately placed in relation to the tiller.

OK, thanks for the replies. It does seem that it is called a tiller head or rudder head, and it does look as if I need to get one made, or the crack repaired.

Ho hum.

Cheers.
