i am thinking of going from s.cost to azoures but just found 5 inch crack in hull... should irisk it? A friend came round the world with prop shaft leaking??

A leaky prop tube is a very different kettle of fish from a 5" crack.

I see from your Bio that you are into engineering ( as am I ). Think it through mate.
Worrying if the boat is going to sink would certainly spoil any trip I was making.

"Crack" more detail would be good. gel coat often exhibits cracks in places of movement. But on the other hand if it were a crack near the keel especially in a steel boat you can only expect it to get bigger with fatigue.
What caused the crack? wiolll that cause make the crack bigger? Has it just appeared?
As Dunkan Mack says your peace of mind is probably far more fragile than your hull. Any worry will spoil a trip. So fix it first. olewill

You seem to have made your mind up it will be OK.

If you ask a surveyor or boatyard you know what they'll say.

Do you expect us, not having seen it, to advise you that it's no problem?

Monitor it.

Open up with a chisel corner, chemically clean, fill with gelcoat filler.

Keep an eye on it - it will become obvious if it comes back / increases.

Can you get to the back of it ? Take an epoxy repair kit with you -

Sail to the Azores...

You are forgetting of course, there is no such thing as God. So he can't have a country.
Britain has so many superb places that choosing one is tricky.

The Lakes is a pretty good choice.
