Card out and it works fine (not much detail obviously!). But when I put the card in, the plotter just cycles through powering up/loading software ad infinitum, and won't power down properly when holding the power button down. Normal service resumes when the card is removed.

This is after 3 years faithful service with no issues...same card, same plotter.

Any ideas?

This is a case for the SH customer service dept (which I understand is v. good). It's very unlikely that anyone on this forum will have detailed knowledge of the operating system.

Try another card. This will show if it's a card or plotter problem. The cards can get corrupted, particularly with magnetic fields or static electricity.
If its the card( The more likely possibity), the cost of updating the card is not great and presumably they would do this with a corrupted card.
I think it's an SD c map card from memory and there are quite a few plotters that use this format, so there should not be too much problem finding someone with a suitable replacment to try.

It's C-Map, but it's not an SD-card. Probably the same technology inside, but C-map cartridges have their own packaging format.

Yes just looked it up its not an sd card as you say this is used by simrad. There are only a few types of card formats. The SH use the same type of card as the early Raymarine plotters ( Rl 70 rl80 etc), so there should be plenty of these about.

Cheers all. All of the SH tech support guys were ill today but I will try tomorrow! I reckon it's the plotter not the card...if it was the card I'd expect a "can't read card" message or something similar...not for the whole unit to go doolally but we shall see! I did try cleaning the contacts at the time but no joy...
