Cowes YH - no room at the inn!

It is stunning this morning on the Hamble. I am doing maintenance, but I just don’t understand why I am not out sailing. It is like April without the showers.

Lovely day yesterday to take the headsails off for cleaning. First time for us but how regularly do most forumites have their sails cleaned as it seems quite pricey.

I've only had my sails cleaned once when they went in for a 'major overhaul'. Personally I don't think that it is worth cleaning sails for the average cruising boat.

I can't see the point. Cleaning them doesn't make them work better, Mind you, mine are tan so a bit of grubbiness doesn't show. I never minded with white ones either, though.

Never mind the cleaning sails thread drift, back to the subject.
Couldn't get onto my own club visitors pontoon at 4:45 as it was already packed with members desperate to watch the rugby on the big screen in the bar so just rocked up onto miles of empty outside pontoon for the north basin. Put a couple of lines on and sent son ahead to get the beers in. Came back with sorry looking harassed staff member who said there were no spaces and as we hadn't radioed ahead he couldn't accept us as he was already full and been turning people away. Said I'd been a few times this winter and never been refused despite turning up, mooring and seeing the office the following morning. No telling off or request to book ahead. " Ah you need to in the summer " quoth he. FFS it's the middle of February replied I. Ok, if you drag the boat to the back end of that one, 100 m up the pontoon then OK. Halfway there no, go back to where you were.
Hmm. Nice weather, understaffed, never heard of rafting up? Service attitude? No no berths sign on the outside?

I got my berth, but did get an apology the following morning from the nice lady on the desk who said words would be had.

Also a good result, Son and I only Welsh in a bar full of Roses..........

I also had my first outing of the season over the weekend. Friday was very foggy in The Solent so we headed up Southampton water. It’s always an eerie experience to hear fog signals from other, nearby vessels. On Saturday we also called CYH to be told that there’s no room at the Inn . The north basin looked bare with its pontoons removed for dredging. ECM was very accommodating by phone and had long since gone home by the time we arrived. It was a big tide so we needed caution as we tied-up close to LW. Sunday was a lovely day, we were the only boat anchored in Osborne Bay, probably the only time in 2019 that we’ll be able to make this claim. Good start to the year.

Good heavens - thats what the dinghy or front lawn is for. In 30 years I have never paid for a sail to be washed. Are you rich??
