Cowes Water Taxi Prices

I still don't know what to make of the breakwater; if it really does mess up the tides and currents that much, there's another naval architect / civil engineer who should be shot - I do know the Small Craft Channel gets surprisingly shallow considering the serious deep keel racing boats around Cowes.

Once I was in a friends' boat motoring in, it was about a force 2-3; it couldn't have been better timed if some sod had fitted a radio controlled ' knobble ' button - ' wait for it, - now ! ' as the engine conked right at the corner of the breakwater, we were already very close dodging oncoming traffic - I felt I could reach out and touch the shingle as we managed to bear away back to open water for a rethink.

I haven't been into the West Cowes marina or Shephards Wharf for many a year, they were always a bit jostly; has the breakwater made life there easier ?

The rumour in Cowes seems to be that the 2 Red Funnel incidents in fog were both where the strong cross tide is at 4 buoy, and that by the time the radar sweep had been updated the ferries had already been turned into the moorings.

It still seems pretty rough in the main harbour in North wind.

I would guess from that then, maybe the small craft channel has a funnelling effect and there's a strong back-eddy immediately south of it ?

Can't remember experiencing this but regular Cowes racing types will know.
