Slight Fred drift but I was on red jet coming back to the North Island about 1600 when a rib cut straight across the bow of the red jet. Crash stop and the fridge emptied ...

Never seen anything like it. The RIB driver had no idea what was behind him and did not even apologise ! Very lucky chap.

We're planning on sailing across this evening... I've been in Newtown Creek a few times and the Solent ends up looking like a motorway after the display... Some of the boats must be back in Poole within the hour..

the skill of the jetjet captains never ceases to amaze me. Time for a "from the bridge" in one of the mags.

One of the magazines a few years back had an article on the view from the Portsmouth FastCat and detailed all their instrumentation and thoughts about yachties.. But you're right.. the red jet is rather quick!

There is a LNTM now detailing the Firework display in no.97. http://www.southamptonvts.co.uk/Port_Information/Navigation/Notices_to_Mariners/

... but there seems to be no mention of any exclusion areas specific to the Fireworks.. unless it's basically the 'Breakwater Exclusion Zone' from the Cowes Week notice no. 95.

Thanks - I've been waiting for that one to come out. They leave it a bit late, don't they? I'm sure last year's equivalent was available a bit earlier.

Looks like it - though surely you wouldn't want to be passing through it during the display anyway? The barge is only in position for about half an hour while actually erupting.

Gutted. Had a late invite to head over on a rib so left work, packed a couple of bags and floored it up the A3. No point coz it's a no go now. Wouldn't have been much fun in this but hey...I was really looking forward to it.
