I visited about 7 years ago. Pretty much as per masterofnone's account. I can't remember any particular difficulty in approach navigation, but it was very tight for space inside, and very, very few vacant berths. Limited facilities (and limited hours IIRC) but very friendly, helpful woman in the office during the limited opening hours.
I formed the impression it was almost full of local berth-holders, and that they didn't get a lot of visitors, but I may be wrong about that.
We very much enjoyed our stay there - quite different to the typical marina, and I would be keen to return one day.
I can heartily recommend the local patisserie's produce. (We stopped numerous places Boulogne to St. Vaast-La-Hogue and back, and made it our mission to compare and contrast each port's Normandy apple cake (can't remember proper name) and other patisseries! )
