In my search for a cruiser (see previous post re Windy 8800) I have come across a company in the USA called Global Trading Partners who are advertising what seem to be late model, good quality, well cared for boats that are currently in Florida. The ads go on to say that the costs are all inclusive of taxes, shipping and a brand new road trailer. I contacted them by phone and they were helpful and promt in sending me piccies that looked fab!!! They emailed me a spreadsheet with 22 cruisers in the range of 22 - 27ft and the oldest being 1994. The makes were Wellcraft, Bayliner, Chris Craft, Crownline, Searay, etc. The lowest price was £14k all in and the highest price was £21k for a 27ft 1999 boat. These prices are about 1/2 or 2/3 of UK and with higher spec.

I'd stick all the stuff on here but I'm not at my usual desk.

What do you think? Too good to be true? An opportunity whose time has come? If I went ahead, I would get this on my credit card for protection.

Thanks in advance
DAVE

I think it would be very doubtful if either the boats or their trailers would be legal in Europe.

Does sound good, is there any small print, i.e. shipping anywhere in the USA, else where extra? What types of trailers American, Legal for british roads?
Do they have eu or ce(or whatever it is) markings to conform with europe,
Are they all huge petrol engines? Any diesels?

Get to your desk now, and post the list, or do they have a web address.

Would you honestly buy a boat without seeing it though?

Cheers..

Alistair..

At those prices I'd fly over for a look. How much is a flight to Florida these days?

Don't know about the company but the Florida market is huge for boats of all types and their state taxes are amongst the lowest in the U.S. - hence the lower prices. Applies to cars too.

Legal??

Probably not, but at those prices I'd have thought they could be CE'd and still be an economic proposition.

I've read somewhere (poss. even in MBY) that the ever increasing imposition of speed limits in Florida, to protect wildlife and the environment, has meant lots of people putting their boats on the market, hence a glut of cheap 2nd hand mobos - not much point in having a 30kt sports cruiser if you can only do 5kts to get anywhere.

I think you have to deal with all that CE guff and also pay VAT on import to the UK. But maybe still worth it.

If this is what the dealers charge I wonder how cheap if you buy privately from the florida exchange and mart. I'm going there next week so will report back!

obvioulsy this si specialist stuff and best if you are part resident or frequent visitor
but i was told that the chepaest source of boats is the Drug Enforcment agency auctions in florida

under us law the benefits of dealing drugs are confiscated ( a similar law is in place or soon to be here)
natch they get all kinds of 'bling' which includes boats, and some bargains are to be had. albeit you have no history
but apparently some scarabs were going mad money cheap and all they had had was a few hours
the DEA publicises the auctions altho whether they are on their web site i donot know
this info i have to say is 2 yrs old at least but as auctions are the only real way of raising the revenue i am sure they still take place

worth a web search maybe

the CE issue is a problem tho

What the hell is "bling". Am I showing my age here or is this some sort of scouse slang for "yes sir, it has all the extras on the options list".

Please translate!

Bling

A current colloquialism, much used by young persons M'Lud. Generally used to refer to adornments, particularly of an ostentatious kind, that demonstrate the owner's wealth. See also: "bling-bling" (particularly in the context of diamond jewellery) and "Is s/he a blinger or a minger"? A question posed by a person endeavouring to arrive at an aesthetic judgement of a fellow human being.

B*ll*cks; I can't keep this up.

Its actually "bling-bling" and means an expression of like or dislike for flashy stuff such as boats, jewellry etc. Bling-Bling can also refer to the merchandise itself.

I suppose this is another Americanism to be filed under crap like the rest of the "up to the moment" crap phrases that eminate from that side of the pond.

Good points Alistair. I will attempt to address them.

Shipping to Uk included
UK trailer supplied at Southampton, where they land.
All petrols, 5.0 to 7.4L - but at this price I can convert to gas.
Dont know re CE but I only want to use it in UK
Buying without seeing....hmmm. You got me there Alistair.

I could use my VISA card and obtain buyer protection that way and then pay the amount off next statement.

Re.wot about

Import duties AND then Vat charged on everthing inc shipping costs ?
Also how can i put this... erm ....things like these tend not to loved as much over there ie.not serviced/poor upholstery/bleached gel coat because it will be sold after couple of years for a newer shineyer version.Def need to inspect before purchase.
Personal experience importing s/hand harleys a few years ago indicates all of the above problems and get photos of the thing if poss before in goes into the container. This is for any poss insurance claim.

Re: Re.wot about

They're probably repo's. Banks and finance companies use clearinghouse dealers like this to sell boats the owner couldn't finish paying for. Caveat Emptor...the boats probably have not been taken very good care of in the last year or two, at least.

Steady on , Barry! I think it's a UK expression. Never heard it here, but then again I don't mingle much with young people anymore! BTW, I hope Tony has told Bushie how to pronounce "nuclear" during this visit:)

He needs more help with the English language than a bit of pronunciation! Has he got a passport yet and been outside the US?
