Costs of Berths in Majorca for 2017

Martyn

What dates are you looking at to rent?

I 'might' have a 12x4 berth to rent in portals. I say might as I will more than likely sell it at some point, especially if a good offer came along . Have my current boat on there until end of November. I can move the boat to another berth after that.

Most boats on the pontoon are bigger than 12m. From memory there is a squadron 44 on the pontoon. Beam is more important but there are also a few 'fjord' boats with a beam of 3.99m (doesn't leave much for fenders!). None of this is an issue though as our mooring is 4 from the end so can easily move boats if needed.

Will drop you a PM thanks

Hi Mike

Just fancied a change of location, we stayed in Palma some years ago on the boat and quite enjoyed the anchorages round that side, and it seemed a little less windy as well. We are going to put it all together over teh next couple of weeks and decide what to do.
Yup you're probably right. We always felt the north side of Majorca was windier than the south so in the sense Palma was a better place to be. Barry Lawrence at Mallorca Cruising might know some Brits who rent out their berths in Sterling?

Why book a berth

Having said that, we sometimes treat ourselves to a marina berth - Alcudia for example is about £130 per night.

a.

I didn't realise they were that much a night in Alcudia, but then I guess you are at the top end size wise!

One thing that seemed to have changed, is that back in 2005-2008 when we wanted a majorca mooring in the summer, I felt it was much more difficult to get an adhoc temporary visitors mooring if you didn't speak good spanish, and more than once I had the phone put down on me when I asked in English, even visiting the marina offices was a bit of a chore. I learnt to ask for a mooring in spanish very quickly...

This time round, the harbour master offices have been really helpful ,we get written mooring quotes all broken down in english, and emails have been answered promptly, since we returned to the UK. There also seems to be a good waiting list system, and most have web booking sites and online services. Definitely an improvement, and a reflection of the more digital age we live in.

Hi Guys having done both stayed in Mallorca and the mainland , you can’t beat the economics of staying in Mainland in winter and then moving to Mallorca for the summer.
If you start with the costs then this must be an issue and you can quite easily move from mainland to Mallorca and the savings are massive, we save about 14,000 Euros on a 18 meter mooring + the maintenance costs are lower.
Ok we have to spend fuel to get there but its got to be 10,000 euros less which for me is significant saving and we always use Ibiza to stop off and this is part of the holiday or as a trip in its own right.
I would add Denia is more confident for use as its closer to the airport which in SC is a pain as its no where near an airport which makes getting to it hard.
Go for it as you will not regret it

What do you pay in Denia out of interest please ?

They recently quoted me 5240 Euros for a 12x4 berth including vat but plus G5 and water and electric are metered. I've decided on Alicante because it's nearer the airport and there's more life there.

Alicante sounds ideal for getting to, what are the cruising and anchorages like compared to the islands? I imagine it's pretty lively and doesn't close down like Majorca does at the end of October.

I only just got to Alicante after a year in Sant Carles (which didn't suit us at all) so it's still a bit new.
I chose it because it has regular flights from airports near me, it's warmer than other places in the winter and it's not just a seaside resort.
Cruising and anchoring is limited though, by the looks of it, but Ibiza is 90 miles away, mostly along the coast, then a hop over. The Mar Menor is 35 miles and I'm sure we'll find places to go. There's certainly no shortage of beaches. Denia is obviously closer to the Islands and has calas nearby but I just got the feeling it would be dead in winter, plus it's hard to get to from the airport.
The Alicante airport bus runs every 20mins and takes 30mins to the marina, otherwise it's 15-20mins in a cab. I like that.
An island cruise will definitely be on the cards in the spring but I think not berthing there will suit us better.

We spent one season in Denia in 2004 and unless its changed I would agree. I found the drive to/from Alicante airport to be exhausting; it used to take us 1 1/2hrs which is the last thing you want after a delayed flight. Yes it is a bit dead out of season but very crowded in season. Yes there are anchorages to the south of Denia but all are exposed to any onshore breeze and the prevailing wind did seem to be an onshore easterly which got quite boisterous in the afternoon. With apologies to any forumites who moor there, I think there are better places to base your boat in the Med

Denia was about 5000 euros for a 15 meter berth all in including g5 and IVA yes its a bit of drive but SC is a lot further and everyone says on here how good it is but found it to be completely dead.
Alicante is very convent for the airport for quick visits but its more city than holiday destination but does have an all year round feel which unless you are in Palma you went get in Mallorca.

There's a phantom 42 for sale on p6 as well.

Thanks Paul. Yhat's a big jump between 12m and 14m. What's the chances of getting a 12.5m boat on a 12m mooring? Incidentally, what paperwork do marinas normally use for charging purposes. I think someone said that a tonnage survey for Part 1 reg can give an opportunity for some creative measuring?

Try AML. Ms Idioa Herran. She and her company have been selling and renting berths for many years there. She brokers both commercial and private berths direct with leaseholders and berth owners in Mallorca and throughout the islands.

They have no 14m berths available but I'm fairly sure they would let you put a 12.4 on a 12 metre berth. The other side of our pontoon (P6) is 12 metre berths and there are plenty of 40 ft boats on there even a couple of 41 's they didn't ask us for any paperwork just the make and model for the quote

I second AML. Bought my first moorings and buying some now through her.

As for 12.5m boat on a 12m mooring - I think my current boat 11.37m is the smallest on my current 12m mooring. There are 44 foot boats on the mooring. More important is the beam. Over that is more of a problem.

Just gone for a quote online for my 11.3 x 3.71 boat and I get €4534 for an annual stern to berth. Still excellent value for a lovely marina but how could I get the €3000 deal?
Cheers
David
I have details of a 12m berth available for less than 3k
I was going to berth there but have made other plans now
PM me if your still interested
