we are interested in wintering near barcelona this year not in the city but close enough to visit by public transport, thinking of masnou or ginesta has anyone any advice
Ginesta gets lots of dust from the quarries, dont know about masnou, but they are building two new small marinas just north of the city, will try and find outr the names, might be suitable. By the way, why not in the city?
Agree Ginesta loads of dust and the shops are miles and miles away although the place is full of restaurants.
I'm on a waiting list for winter in Vell but like last year very little chance for a 12m berth

Weve never quite got our heads around their system at Vell. Last year we sat on a spot for July and August but in Sept went from 3rd to 5th on a waiting list so gave up and moved north. It's annoying when as you say there were eventually winter spaces and we never cancelled our berth request.

ps Are you using the Port Vell 'intranet' system (or whatever it's called) ?
Try Mataro, Port Balis or Arenys de Mar, both are half an hour drive north of Barcelona. Masnou is very busy and quite noisy on weekends.
South of Barcelona, you have Ginesta (I wouldn't recommend), Gava and AiguaDolc (Sitges). Mataro is best for public transport since the railway station is connected to the port by a pedestrian underpass.
The new ports being built are not too promising and probably won't be finished this year, though sales are almost done.
Send me a pm if you need any help, I'll be glad to in any way I can.
