Firstly, can I apologise to Chinita and others for my comparison of parts of the Algarve to Blackpool. I was wrong.

We are near Malaga and in comparison the Algarve is the equivalent of the lake district.

To make it worse we have been robbed with a smile by the marina manager and will be stuck here for several days due to the predicted high winds.

It is a concrete jungle of English here with red and white stripped people everywhere trying to burn themselves for two weeks.

We did ask in town if there was a little part of Spanish still around anywhere. We were told to take a bus into the hills. There was nowhere in walking distance.

Is there anywhere east of Malaga worth visiting and is there anywhere that won't take my last remaining shirt off my back?

GET ME OUT OF HERE...... I know it's going some but even Ramsgate is better... only just.

FFS Its your problem mate, sort it!

You have missed so many nice places already but who can tell ya eh?

(BTW I love the blog)

There are many 'white villages of Las Alpujarras' strung along 70km of the foothills of the Sierra Nevada rising up from the sea, with lots to see and do that may well fit the bill...

Have a look at < http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUs...ional_Park_Province_of_Granada_Andalucia.html >, then < http://www.andalucia.com/villages/alpujarras.htm > and < http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alpujarras > Certainly, a wander into one of the tourist info places which abound in Spain will give several options.

Oh, herr'nit! Do your own Googling. ;)

Can I recommend Ronda a lovely wee town, but is to the west.

Not too many of us ginger Scots that upset you so much then?

Have you tried Estapona? again to the west

Ah, the sun has been turned up and all the Scottish are in the shade waiting for happy hour to begin. I think I saw the remains of one "Ginger" but it was hard to tell as they had melted into the pavement.
Well, English breakfast this morning, burger king for lunch and McDonalds for tea. I love these Tapas meals.
Booked a bus to get out of town tomorrow to go into them there hills.

If you think that is bad go see Puerto B Anus, a tasteless plastic posing place for tasteless plastic posing people.

If you're even half human you'll lose the will to live.

What were you expecting to find around Malaga? Olive trees dotting the landscape, vistas of thousands of orange, lemon and avocado trees, dripping with fruit. Remote fishing villages with locals gathering in the afternoon sun .
As I see it you have 2 options. Build a time machine and go back about 50 years or.....stick on your jolly boys union jack shorts and enjoy the place for what it is. Option 3 as has already been mentioned - get yourself into the hills. The scenery alone is worth a day or 2 of car hire.

From the marina take a cab up to mijas pueblo 15 euro IIRC or theres a good and cheap train link through to Malaga and its moorish citadel.

Not exactly high culture at either but sometimes you just have to go with the flow and try and enjoy a place for what it is or get out pronto.

I'm about 5 miles east of you, I was in Fuengirola a few weeks ago for lift out, while out for a beer & a meal, the 'Lucky Lucky' men drove me nuts, not quite so bad here.

2nd the suggestion to jump on a bus & explore the old parts of Malaga.

You have my sympathy, I worked in Estepona a couple of years ago and it's nothing but English pubs and pie shops along that part of the coast.

There are several Spanish places to the east of you where English and German are rarely heard, such as Castell de Ferro (http://www.redbubble.com/people/agurney/works/3998637-spanish-mediterranean-dawn) to the east of Motril ... where the beer is 1.40 euro and the included tapas is enough for lunch. The downside is that the countryside is covered with plastic greenhouses growing veg for UK supermarkets.

If you just want a day trip to escape, how about visiting the caves at Nerja, or even a visit to the Alhambra? Both are stunning, although the Alhambra isn't cheap.

The so-called "Costa Tropical" to the east of the Costa del Sol used to be called "the windy coast" for good reason, and unfortunately there are lots of cliffs and nowhere really sheltered to moor a yacht in onshore winds.

Malaga has good bus links to some of the best bits of Andalusia:
Ronda, as already mentioned; Cordoba or Grenada are all fantastic spots if you pack an overnight bag, or if you like walking the Gratzelima (check spelling) national park is very good.

Love Estapona, quite a few Germans there, and a few English, but not too many of the bargin cruise sort...Ronda is lovely place to vist, but as its on top of a mountain a trifle tricky to visit on a boat !! :)
