Costa Concordia documentary

Agreed. Far too many insinuations about the captains actions or lack of it throughout the whole episode. I am surprised they were allowed to broadcast it when the whole thing is still 'sub judice' so to speak - particularly as the captain is likely to be facing very serious charges over the tragic deaths.

I,ll bet the coastguard will make a great witness against "El Capitano" he was scathing !!!

Yeah, it was certainly tragic, but that super-imperative coastguard made me smile. I found I was trying to imagine which Hollywood star would play him in the movie. Maybe Nick Cage, not doing any accent?...and Bill Paxton as the shivering Schettino... :)

Too much drama and talk of people being plucked to safety. It's very sad that there were people killed and some still unaccounted for but the ones that were picked up by helicopter could have sat there all night, the ship was going nowhere. The dancer guy who was convinced he was going to die, I hope he wasn't in charge at any muster stations. Strange how people react differently in these situations. I would like to think If I was in that situation I would be convinced I was NOT going to die.

Joe the dancer was indeed a male chicken and the Ladies put him to shame with their deeds

Worth watching just to see and listen to dancer Rose Metcalf again.

I didn't much like the macho CG Officer, who seemed to be grandstanding on his tape machine, rather than contributing anything useful to the situation.

As was pointed out by Haydude on a thread on Scuttlebutt, in Italy the responsibility for the vessel passes to the Coastguard after a MayDay. The CG officer therefore had every right to order operations, including telling the captain what he should do. One of the CG officer's problems was that he was not properly informed of the situation until it had pretty well got out of control.

So one has to ask how he is supposed to assume control of situation like this from 100 miles away? Sounds a recipe fro further disaster to me., thiough I guess there are times when our own Coasties would like to be able to tell people what they really must do next....

As someone of Italian heritage, the most amusing thing I have heard about this whole tragedy is that the Italians have take the CG's expression of " Vado a bordo cazzo" ( which he shouted to Schettino) and put it on T shirts.

The BBC dutifully translated this as " get back on board damn it". However it really should read " get back on board you pr**k
