Reminded this morning that I'm in the last stages of converting our old plywood rowing dinghy to sail-power and need some rudder pintles and gudgeons for it.

Local chandlery seemed to want £18 or so for each bit, and there are 4 bits to get = £72!

As the cost so far has been 1 x half piece WBP ply, @ £12.50; the sail is going to be a cut down old main off 'HUZZAH', the mast, gaff and boom some glued up pieces from the shed, etc., the 'bits' above seem out of proportion.

Anybody got any better ideas?

Go to your local farm supplies shop, and look at gate hinges and pins. Heavily galvanised and about £3 - 5 each.

(you might try a big garden centre, too)

Don't know what you would consider reasonable or where you have looked but these people have always been OK for my dinghy bits and the Seasure stuff is decent quality for the price.

Hope it helps.

(Holt stuff is cheaper see same site menu to left.)

Everybody I know who have got/had kids who sail, have a box of dinghy bits that
" might come in handy one day".
Except they never do 'cos the sprogs absolutely have to have the latest titanium/platinum alloy fittings.
Try going to your local sailing club and chatting to a member of the Poor Bloody Parents Association, I'm sure someone can find you a hoard of bits.
Give a few more details of what you need & I'll look in my own treasure chest.
