Hello forum, I am looking to buy a 34-46 FB boat in Spain to live on during holidays.
With a budget around GBP 150k I am looking for Rodman/Astondoa/Swift Trawler/Prestige : the usual suspects.....
To convince SWMBO with man-math that "it does make sense to own a boat there!", I am trying to budget the annual cost..
It seems that berthing a 12 m LOA / 4 m beam in the area between Gibraltar and Malaga is around GBP 10k per annum ?
Any experience with this?

I have been berthing my 15m x 4.99m sailing boat in that area and further north (valencia/barcelona) or the past 7 years. Most I paid is around £6,000 per annum. Hope that helps

Why not add the Sealine F43 to your list.
I have always thought the F43 to be the best "home from home" in its class.

Also, you can get away berthing for less (around £5K GBP pa) a bit further north though at Sant Carles - the MDL marina in the Spanish Med - halfway between Valencia and Barcelona.
Lots of Brits, the weather is good - marina has a swimming pool for the kids etc.
Cruising to the Balearics is an easy crossing for a 40 foot ish boat.
Have a look at our marina forum ( www.scmchat.com ) if you would like to know more - free to register - lots of information.

Thanks for mentioning the Sealine F series - will surely add them to the list !
.. Have to find a spot at the Costa del Sol though as my sister is resident there and can look after the boat.
OK - more specifically though it is the F43 (quite an old design) that I was referring to.
IMO, it was way ahead of the market when it was designed.
2 or 3 cabin layouts - the 2 cabin layout converts the dinette to a temporary 3rd cabin .
The owners cabin though, is an aft cabin so very comfortable.
IMO, bow cabins suffer from "slap and tickle" - waves under the bow so I like boats with the main cabin away from the bow.
The F43 fits this bill perfectly and you still get a cockpit and flybridge.

I don't have a connection with the F43 - just my unbiased views.

On a more modern boat, you will see the main cabin as a full beam midships.

theres an F43 for sale in Gibraltar for £80K. looks a bit unloved and sun bleached - should clean up ok though. Maybe wrap the interior woodwork if its too far gone. 3M Dinoc is fab stuff
it's on boatshed.com

Thanks for the info, will look at some boats next month in SoS !
Cleaning, restyling is doable and fun, as long as the structure and techniques are sound.
And wrapping the woodwork in 3M carbon film will make the ship less heavy !

Called in to duquesa marina this morning. Marina is between Soto grande /Gibraltar and Estapona.

That F43 is really growing on me.. it makes so much sense to have an aft cabin to avoid the sound from waves under the bow.
Very valuable info because when you shop for a boat you don't get the chance to sleep in it.

That’s a great price for an F43. Can’t see the pics as it makes me log in to see them and the bit of the ad I can see has many inaccuracies.

I have what is essentially an early F43.
I love it.
It’s not just the slapping you can’t hear. You can’t hear your guests burping, farting and bonking.
The only flaw in the design is the narrow side decks.
I still aspire to a newer version of the same.

I had forgotten that your boat is an early example.
I was just recommending the F43 generally.
They broke the mould (literally) when they stopped building the F43.
IMO - great boat

I am in Sotogrande..have a 15m boat, costs just a few euros over 10k for 2020. 12 m is quite a bit less. You can get 15m berth in Alcaidesa Marina which is just N of Gib border..for 6k a year, so quite a bit less again, for 12m.

Now, having had an F43 actually in Sant Carles Marina for many years, I can say with some confidence, it is a great boat, stable with good sea-keeping and easily as much space, if not more, than my Princess 45 - very easy to live on and SCM is a great place for a family starting-off in the Med. I keep my P45 there..!

My comments on the F43:

.1 Relatively small flybridge - but perfectly adequate.
.2 Step-up and over back to board the boat - not really an issue and good to contain kids,
.3 Not great vision of the bathing platform when reversing in to a stern-to berth - Camera or practice sorts that.
.4 Removing floor to gain good access to engines - only takes a few minutes though.

I would certainly recommend you consider the F43, if you want to spend many weeks on the boat, try to get a latish one...

Also had a Targa 34 in Spain but you soon realise you need more space so minimum 40+ if you can manage it....

Thank you all for the advice.
Not that many F43s for sale in Spain, will have a look at the one in Gibraltar but the (relatively) low price is possibly an indication that it's not the best example.. hope Spain will not go into lock down in april..
