I am doing up a steel boat (hard chines, flat bottom) and thinking about the insulation,I am cosidering the cork option(more environmently friendly than foam).
Because of the risk of condensation I think it is important to avoid any gap at all between the metal and the cork(for the sound proofing too) Can any body think of the best adhesive to use, having the bedding quality and beeing fairly week for possible removal of the pannels ?
I suppose polyurethane glue must be the best, but is it??

Hi,
Thanks for your private message,

Think I would try and use Sikaflex 298 which is the same stuff one would use to glue down teak decks. Formica glue is cheaper though!!
Do we have to glue it down without gaps? The cork is not porous?
What do you think?

My boat has old fashioned cork tiles on the overhead and I have used contact glue , Ados F2 applied to the cork and the boat to reapply it after some had to be removed. If you are fitting sheets of it , be careful of compound curves which may cause problems in fitting. Contact adhesive allows for immediate fixing but not much chance of repositioning if you get it wrong.
Perhaps a flooring seller could give advice on the subject.

I am putting cork tiles on my bathroom (heads) floor. The proper cork tile adhesive would not stick them to the epoxy coated wood. I found that cheap silicone sealer (like for round your bath) works very well. However the tiles will break when you try to remove them.

Polyurethane Covering

When you have fastened the tiles, it is a good idea to varnish them with polyurethane. This looks good, provides a very durable surface for foot traffic, and will seal up any cracks or porous tendancy of the tiles.
