Does anyone know of a gas fitter around the weymouth area? my insurance company have requested I change my gas hoses which I am keen to do but finding a corgi registered marine gas fitter is no easy task yellow pages have nothing. Is it essential that the fitter is marine registered or will an ordinary corgi registered gas fitter be acceptable?I can't be the only one with this problem I hope

technically speaking you need a fitter with lpg boats qualification...an "ordinary" one aint no good!!this is showing up the system for the overkill that it is.......ihad boats added to my list just by answering two or three extra questions during my recent reassessments..none of which incidentally related to hoses.
c'est la vie
try ringing corgi direct on 0870 401 2300 and asking for a guy in your area...sorry i'm in wales!
cheers

No actual regulations yet for boats, so you can do it yourself legally. You'll have to ask your insurance company though in respect of insurance.

Don't get me going on this subject! I'm a Chartered Electrical Engineer, but couldn't now legally install a new socket for you!

Not even 100% certain the new switch I installed in my own home today legal!!

As I understand the situation you can repair and/or add outlets and lights to existing circuits providing they are not located in the kitchen, bathroom or outside.

Talk to Geoff Crutwell, very thorough surveyor in Wey.

I am sure he would send you in the right direstion

Vic surely you installed it on new years eve /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

cheers Joe

Did I specify the location? or whether I 'altered' the circuit? An ambiguous one is if my shed power feed fails and I simply replace like-for-like. (I wouldn't, because it would be bad practice).

I think legislation to make installation of RCDs compulsory in ALL homes should have come way before this.

Also, on this matter, think the IEE should have consulted it's members more *before* things went into law.

I drive at 29mph (I literally did install the GPS in the car recently to calibrate the speedo).

Biggest risks now are annoyed driver behind who overtakes dangerously; and keeping eyes on speedo rather than the road. Plenty of cases of people getting done at 32mph.

If you want to pay someone then make sure they have completed an ACS Corgi course in LPG for Caravans and Boats and not just a LPG or even worse a natural Gas ACS. I did this out of interest in finding out why good fitters in our company were having trouble in passing these ACS courses a couple of years ago, found the amount of boat content was very little, the biggest ballache was trying to get 100% of the questions right in the general sections - no wonder the older chaps in our company had problems in passing.

Thanks for your tip the problem seems to be insurers and not the legality of replacing your own hose should I do it myself would it then not have to be tested with a water guage and certified? perhaps a microwave would be the answer until some jobsworth finds a way to block that

No you do not require a Corgi fitter & you can do it yourself... But

>Do it yourself" installation is not encouraged. The installation of a gas system on the private vessel is not covered by the Gas Safety (Installations and Use) Regulations 1994. However, you have to take "responsible care for the health and safety of yourself and other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work" under the Heath and Safety at Work Act 1974.<

this was taken from Here
worth having a look at plenty of info.

Gas fitters? How about asbestos inspectors?

I think it's all part of a job creation scheme by the government. Look at the new asbestos regs - every business has to have an asbestos survey. So if you are operating from a purpose-built modern industrial unit, one of twenty-five identical units, then each business has to have an asbestos survey. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Out of business?

Well - you are going to electricute yourself with those extra sockets your putting on your new ring mains, probably through not wiring the new RCD board in correctly having read the instructions in the shed when the lightbulb failed and the squirrel was blown across the garden .. thats if you don't gas yourself out first from your hose replacement that you double & tripple checked and pressure tested ..

after all - we're all just plebs and don't know one end of a screwdriver from another ...

(hmm ... I wonder if I can make my laptop faster by giving it more volts ... 19 doesn't seem enough, perhaps ~230 will make it 11 times faster ... ??)
