Re: Out of business?

Just had to deal with this as well on buying a new (secondhand) boat, seems that a CORGI inspection is now a common requirement on buying a used boat. Apparently it comes from marine surveyors routinely stating "the purchaser is recommended to have the gas inspection checked by a CORGI registered engineer", that covers the surveyor!

I was quoted £75 for a CORGI inspection - so I bought a double burner ORIGO (spirit stove) for £150, made the decision easy.

Re: corgi gas installers

dont want to make a meal out of this but
a) gas regs 1998 (note not 1994) do not apply to vessels which do not require a load line certificate but do apply if they are used primarily for domestic or residential purposes.
b) bet your bottom dollar insurance companies will not cover you if you do the work yourself, I know several instances, admittedly domestic, where claims not relating to gas work, have been denied because unregistered gas work had taken place previously in the property
c) the catch all is your duty of care under health and safety...dont forget that includes a duty of care to yourself as well.
d)three questions came in at about £40!! but the rest of it came in at about £2000...and its every 5 years so dont blame the poor old fitter for trying to claw it back!!!!

Re: Out of business?

I have just had to renew my basic hygiene course it took some dope 6 hours to show me how to wash my hands then saying, " that if we cross contaminated food it won't be edible to eat" also "all food must be dethawed properly or it can be fatalistic"

Hi, Corgi will give your nearest registered engineer for boats. Ensure they cover the appliances you have on board. Any problems I am based on the East Coast (Essex), but do travel. regs Pete, 07802 514466

Re: Out of business?

Dear LakeSailor,

Can you help? My boat is moored on Ullswater and I am having difficulty finding an Corgi LPG gas fitter to check and service the installation on my boat. Do you have the name/number of anyone that can help?

Regards,
Windsong

Sorry, The only connection I've had with one recently was a friend who had heating put on his boat. Although it worked fine and he was Corgi registered, the marine element seemd to have escaped him, He put a big leisure battery and two gas bottles all in the port cockpit locker so the boat (A Gibsea ) developed a list to port. We did think he could have at least put the battery to starboard to balance things up.
The people at the Ullswater Electric Boat Company in (confusingley) Penrith seem very helpfull.
