Hi,
Does anybody use Coppercoat or similar for a yacht moored in Portsmouth harbour? I'd like to see how it really looks after a little while in the water.
How much work is it to keep reasonably smooth?
How long do you think it will last?
Any info gratefully received!

We had Lizzie B done in Copperguard (similar stuff) and kept her on various berths in Portsmouth harbour including Fareham Creek, Campers and finally Haslar Marina. It was still fine in 2007 having been applied in 1998.

All we ever did was jet wash in the slings at Gosport Boat Yard whilst scrubbing with a very stiff yard brush (about 40 mins work )Only ever got green slime which came off with the jet washer.
They used to do us a cheap deal in early May after everyone had gone back in the water.

Once we missed a year so had to deal with 2years worth of slime having not used the boat much. It still came off with jetwash in 40 mins or so.

Ours was professionally applied.

So you think 12 months in the water with no serious slow-you-down type weed? No barnacles?
How rough was the finish after some years?
When my boat is fresh in the water with hard antifoul she is very quick and I'm reluctant to lose that slick finish, but after 6 months its hopeless.
Thanks for your reply,
Chris.

I am interested too. Keep my cat on a drying mooring up Fareham creek and the biggest bugbear appears to be barnacles. Are you saying you didn't have any in a similar position? As I can dry out and jet wash easily anywhere, perhaps I should consider it? I have been a bit cynical up to now....

Even after two years in the water the only barnacles were on the prop, from where a few seemed to have migrated to the adjacent hull. The blemish in the second foto is on the foto, not the actual hull.
These were taken when coating 5 years old. Boat had been in the water continuously for two years with very litle (just a few weekends) use.
All we had done was a quick jet wash in the slings.

Current owners say at 9 years old it is performing just as well and looks as good as new.

That looks very good. Especially as the prop is horrible! Did you dry out in the mud up fareham creek or were you always afloat?

Ahh! That's different, but thanks anyway. I am right up near the town quay and dry out completely. Known locally as barnacle city! Still might be good though as friction wears away conventional antifoul quickly...
