I have a 3.0 Essex V6 which has been marinised, i however bought it with all the pipework in a big bundle and not conected to the engine, it is indirectly cooled and has a heat exchanger. I will get some pictures tomorrow to help describe what im trying to ask

My problem is i have a rough idea of where some of the pipework goes, im guessing where a radiator would normally be if it were a car engine that is where the heat exchanger connects ? I have a medium size bore pipe that runs from the back of the engines waterpump, i first though this went to the manifolds but then i though if i did that, then the coolant would just get ejected out the exhaust ? so any thoughts where the pipe may go ? With regards to the manifold shosn in the picture below it has 2 blue pipes which run across them, there is also a 3rd fitting on each manifold ? would this be for the "used" raw water ? I was thinking of finding out tomorrow with a hosepipe and see where the water ends up !

Secondly the engine has an oil cooler which sits behind the oil filter, how do i go about connecting this to the cooling system, does it connect to the raw water system ?

I know they are some vague questions but i assure you i will back it up with some pictures tomorrow

Engine coolant goes around engine and oil coolers, passing through the heat exchanger where it is cooled by an entirely separate water supply sucked up by a raw water pump, possibly belt driven, from the sea/river, through a sea-cock (tap!) and strainer, pumped through the heat exchanger core and injected directly into the exhaust pipe downstream of the exhaust elbow. This cools the exhaust allowing rubber exhaust hoses to be used and gives the characteristic spit of water out of the exhaust. Engine coolant is sealed system, I assume the loose plastic bit on top is the header tank. As its a vee engine you'll presumably have two heat exchanger manifolds to link up along with the two exhausts, it's hard to see clearly but in your picture you appear to have a raw water pump belt driven and fitted below the alternator which provides cooling water to the manifolds. More pics from different angles would help.

The waterpump you can see is the engines waterpump this is the pmup that pumps the coolant around the engine this is where the random pipe comes from and i dont know where it goes, i have yet to find a raw waterpump to pump water through the heat exchanger, i have a few pictures of the exhaist manifolds

Now i blew some air through these "fittings" and it comes out the exhaust so im assuming this is where the raw water cools the manifolds /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif
