Conyer Creek

My wife and I are thinking of buying (our first) sailing yacht which will be approx. 28-30ft. The idea at the moment is to keep it in the Medway / Swale area as that will mean it is within an hour of home and no need to cross the Thames etc.

Although only visiting once (by car) we both like Conyer Creek as it feels quite small and has a pub or two near by. I am obviously aware that this is a tidal / drying creek, which is something new to us. I have been told that many yachts are kept there without any issues, including those with a fin keel.

I also appreciate that there will be a limited time period for leaving / returning the boat, but this is something we are prepared to accept if everything else is ok. Does anyone have any experience of the moorings at Conyer (I believe there are a couple of yards / marinas) especially with a fin keel or maybe even winged keel sailing yacht that would have a spade / unsupported rudder?

Dick Holness of ECP keeps his yot there.Might be worth contacting him while clutching a copy of the latest pilot.
Excellent very friendly marina with no airs or graces.All sorts of yachts mooring in the very soft mud.
Top of creek very sheltered helping with not to much excitement mooring in inclement weather.
Easy access to Swale/Medway and the world beyond.

Thanks for the reply, I guess my main / first concern assuming I could actually enter the creek / reach the berth is whether sitting in the mud is going to cause any damage.

There must be just about every single example of everything that floats and sits on mud in that marina.

Why not just wander down at low water and take a look.

I kept my 32 foot lift keel yacht (draught 3ft) here for a couple of years before I sold it and bought a motor boat. As said before access is about one and a half hours either side of HT . Very friendly Marina, one benefit is that because the boat is sitting on the mud half the time it stops a lot of the crap growing on the hull so the sailing performance is hardly affected. Nice sailing area around the Swale ,faversham creek , the mudway ,and good access up the east coast.
