Mirage has a new continuous furling line that has not been fitted to her or spliced. Time on the boat is still at a premium, so can I splice this together at home at then fit it on board? Or is it 'spliced into place'? Her furling system is the Selden Type RA I think: http://www.seldenmast.com/files/595-059-E.pdf and she has Rutgerson rope clutches.

Hmm, looks pretty hopeless: "If deck lead blocks are used we recommend those with removable sheaves from seldén mast. A pre-spliced endless loop can be threaded through them."

Secondly, is this the correct method?

No, you can't do it at home. You need to put the rope on the mast drive pulley, feed it back to the cockpit, feed the rope through the clutches, then splice it.

The video you linked to is correct. Selden also have a very good guide on how to do it, with lots of diagrams - https://www.seldenmast.com/files/1539154449/595-673.pdf

It's worth investing in the proper fids, it makes the job much easier.
