Looking at the various boat policies out there, none that I have found offer cover for laptops, phones, jewelery, wallets or anything else along thoses lines, so do you have a separate policy? Or just not bother?

We had a personal effects extension to our Bishop Skinner policy to cover the extra stuff we have on board, but even then the things you mention are excluded. I think you can get an all risks policy for valuables, but they are horrificlly expensive. So we carry the risk. We call it self-insuring. Having said that, in six years we haven't suffered any loss except a camera down the toilet - and that's another story. So we think we are ahead of the game. Fingers crossed.

I've a £3.3K on "personal" items which paid out for a laptop stolen in Malta, along with many other navigational items - I've never given the matter 2nd thought.

The policy was with GJW.

The laptop, rebuilt on a new chassis, was definitely archiac - to get in anywhere near modern computer standards I dual booted it into Linux - I now have only 1 programme which demands WinOS.
