Need some advice please. Its been found that I have water in the diesel and its gone through to the pump. Do I have to get the pump and injectors serviced at some considerable cost or could I try one of these diesel treatment agents to see if it clears it through the pump.

Need a bit more info, please.

What were the symptoms before the engine(s) stopped ?

Can you see water in the separator bowl ?

Dunno, depends if it's done any damage or not.. I once put umpteen gallons of water in the diesel tank, but quite easily got it out again. First job is get rid of the water.

WE took the drain plug out for a start, till it ran red. Then fitted a tap to the drain, a pipe down to the bilge, with another tap. Leaving the top tap open, any further water would eventually end up in the pipe. So closing top tap and opening the bottom, water was gradually eliminated. Add Soltron, to eliminate the bug. Change your filters.

Now to your pump and injectors. After doing the above. Do they still work or not?? If not, take the injectors. to Bosch, or maybe a local man, for testing.

The only experience of pumps I've had, is it once cost me a fortune, to get one looked at, that was not broken. It was a blocked and frozen air filter.

Get rid of the water and see how it goes.

diesel engines work on compression to ignite fuel/air.water does not compress and large amounts normally will bend a conrod and could do further damage if your really unlucky so,how much fuel are we talking about in your tanks.the water is going to be at the bottom of the tanks as its heavier than diesel.you could save your diesel by filtering the water out
1/drain tanks completely into suitable drums if possible.
2/if you have a water filter in line replace filter and if not get one fitted.
3/remove as much of the fuel from pump as u can by cracking unions
4/refill tank with fresh fuel and prime to fuel pump
5/crack furthest injector from pump return line and bleed if you have a lift pump.
6/get engine started
7/investigate how water got into tank in the first place.

most injectors and pumps are robust and can deal with small amounts of water so no need to get rebuilt so long as your engine was above sea level.

??? Never heard of a diesel hydrolocking due to water in fuel. Normally happens to petrol engines where risers have failed allowing seawater in, or diesels with dodgy exhaust arrangements.

It all depends on how long the water has been there.

Months on end might need injector refurbs and a pump funeral, but if you've detected the problem quickly, then a tank pumpout and fresh fuel might get you there.

My friend had the same problem You will find the tank will have baffels in side and you will not be able to drain the tank of all the water.We first draind the tank as best as we could then put 5gal of methalated sprit in .the meths will absorb the water.As he had two tanks we shut of the tank with the water in and want out on the clean tank and through her about for an hour.splashing the meths about.Then draind the tank filled up with diesel.He had no problem after.He put about ten gal of water in his tank but he did not run the engines.Iwould try this first you may get away with it.If she will not start give some easey start to help clear the water droplets from the pump.Good luck

Do NOT use easy start on a good engine it will damage the piston rings.

The old saying that once you use it the engine is addicted to it in the future is correct as the top ring often breaks due to high detonation in combustion, he correct way is to drain the water and flush out the rest with new diesel, change all the filters and bleed thesytem until no water is shown in the prefilter.

Yes and No. As diesel engines get older they wear and lose a bit of compression, but other things occur which can also make a good engine difficult to start without the use of "Easystart" But if you have to use Easystart "once" you have then to do the "Full" monte in resolving it.
My boat has an Inboard Iveco Diesel. It wouldent start without Easystart.
I had the Injectors Serviced and replaced one. Still no different. The fault was with the Glow Plugs, one had virtually burnt away, and one was going, fitted new ones, and back to being perfect.
